Argos trying to charge for cancelled order

Bottom line is regardless of the fact Argos would easily win the simple fact is it will be ignored because the cost to go to court far outweighs the cost of the item.
It's only really £50 to Argos as that's what they would have paid for it. A letter or two and then it's all forgotten.
Right or wrong with your assessment it annoys me when people steal/fiddle companies for their own ends and the rest of us end up paying higher prices/charges due to these peoples blatant dishonesty. I worked hard all my working life and never took anything without paying for it.
These days it seems to me that some companies just except the fact that this is the "norm" and as a start inflate their prices to cover it. Why should we pay extra to cover this be it a few pence on a small shop item or the pounds extra put on motor insurance? To my way of thinking this is wrong and the sooner companies clamp down hard on these people the better it will be for the rest of us.0 -

My understanding is that neither of the DCs will be able to do anything useful to Argos beyond sending a few begging letters and maybe trying to visit and can easily be seen off by advising the debt collectors the debt is in dispute0 -

However could you explain why you feel that Argos's behaviour here is in any way acceptable
They made a mistake and are now expecting the OP to be inconvienced
Could I perhaps remind you that the person making the mistake was presumably paid not doing their job properly but the OP seems to be expected by posters here to run around for Argos free of charge rectifying their mistake which I find equally distasteful.
In reality I imagine that Argos find it cheaper to have some goods written off rather than to pay their staff properly to deal with such issues and i believe that there is no reason why customers should suffer as a result of Argos 's business model. If my assesment is true than no one is losing money by the OPs actions!0 -
But they DID order them, and then cancelled so they were delivered in error. Argos contacted to get them back but you/OP got rid of them. You assertion that Argos will not be able to prove anything seems to fall short.
Dishonest rug seller? I'm sure the customer would still have a copy of the confirmation with the price on, as well as other proof so that claim would fail immediately.
In essence, Argos made a mistake by delivering a cancelled item, they are now trying to retrieve the item but the OP jumped the gun by giving it away, even though it was not their item to give away.
But you/OP are just hearing what you want to hear and will not listen to reason, so good luck to you. Seems that this story was not posted for advice, rather looking for others to agree with what has happened.0 -
Perhaps the friend is using the rug as a groundsheet in a tent they bought from Argos? I hear their tents are easily damaged, and not that easy to return, and a rug would act as a very comfortable over lay.0

Good memory ... if this was the same person then ... :rotfl:0

Why is everybody assuming that Argos will go to the trouble of involving debt collectors and court cases? They won't. The email they sent is very clear about what they will do - they will simply re-charge OP's original payment method for the rug, using the original authorisation, which they will almost certainly be entitled to do under the T&C's OP agreed. In which case, OP needn't worry about it. Argos will take their money while OP continues to work 60 hour+ weeks.0

Thanks timbstoke that's actually helpful because I didn't know whether that was something that could happen.0

However, nobody ever turned up and as the thing was taking up much needed space in my flat I eventually got rid of it after about a month.

A month isn’t very long, it’s annoying but you should have chased them up0
