My issue is not with quality as I have never slept on one of these instagram mattresses, but the glut of bloggers and vloggers all waxing lyrical about these mattresses, which have been sent to them for free, and never seem to have any bedding on when they are talking about how marvellous they are, and solve all their back pain after one night.

I am similarly dubious about all 'instagram marketted' items.

I've no idea what 'instagram marketted' is.

When I needed a mattress I researched, and discovered that the Simba was highly recommended in a comparative study in one of the (ex)broadsheets. I then checked the reviews on Amazon. The Simba no bad reviews on the actual mattress quality at the time - it did get over 90% of 5 star 'raves'.

All I can say is that it has exceeded my expectations.

I think it is quite obvious that you cannot roll a old technology mattress of any thickness, The construction technique simply won't allow it.

The newer technology, which relies in large part on carefully matched foams of different densities, as a useful side effect of their construction, can be rolled.

Neither can that one once unrolled, as explained.
Not sure what a "quality mattress" (a expensive one?) is but I'm very happy with mine!
A good quality mattress will be hand made with pocket springs stitched together rather than glued, doesn't contain foam instead all natural fillings such as wool, cotton, hemp, horsehair and stitched together by hand. It will be quite heavy, I struggle with mine sometimes to turn and definitely wouldn't be able to carry it on my own, and certainly far too rigid to be able to be rolled. It would also cost at least 3-4 times more than the one you posted.

Here's an example of how a hand made mattress is constructed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sKcRWAzMug

    Hmm.
Was looking at one of these as they have a deal for a mattress protector and two pillows free on at the moment.

I'd look to spread the cost over 6 months but if they tried to push me over the 100 days, a letter before court action might hurry them along a little I'd have thought?

It 1st I loved mine. Great night sleep but 10 month later it's terrible. Because you can't turn the mattress over you end up with 2 body size dints in it. Very uncomfortable. I've looked at the forum and others have the same problem. No point in complaining because they send a spokes person out to measure the dints and they say dints are not deep enough to warrant
refund/replacement. My advice is to save your money and read some of the comments on the forums.
Update: after leaving a comment simba marked me as spam and deleted my negative comment. So only positive comments are shown. So all contact stopped.

After having a replacement mattresses delivered in November. They are now sending out another person around to have a look at it because after 8 month it has gone faulty.

    Updated 2nd of August 2019
After a home visit from homeserve technician whom said that there is no fault with the mattress. I strongly disagree with his conclusion
    I disagree on these points:

-He determined a 2.5mm dip with a string and two bean bags attatched.

-he lay on the bed for 1 second on the left, 1 second in the middle and 1 second on the right then came to a conclusion that it did support his shoulders and head. He did point out that quote 'these types of matteress youd need to sleep like a vampire to get a decent night sleep'.

How can that be a scientific test? You are more than welcome to come and lie on my mattress for more than 3 seconds to see if you ache in shoulders, hips and knees.

-he measured the slats and proceed to say they didn't meet requirements. I pointed out on the last homeserve report they did. He looked at the last report and sai "oh yeah, ok".

How can a 16 minute assessment be at all scientific?!

I asked for a copy of both photos he took and results which he said he was unable to provide this to me.

Simba is sending ANOTHER Homeserve inspector to look at the materess AGAIN

    12th August 2019
Another Homeserve inspector. 10 days from the last one. Now this one has decided yes there are 2 dints (10 days ago he said no dints) but it's not the materess' fault it is now the fault of my base (10 days ago no fault with base) . I disagreed and refused to sign this off. He told me the was no 'take it any further' because if I did take it to the osbusman he does their reports for them so it wouldn't help me.

The problem I had when looking for a mattress was that there were none - and I mean absolutely none - that had a significant number of reviews and didn't have a very small minority saying they were awful.

You don't say how deep you think the 'dints' are.

Your first option is to rotate the mattress in the horizontal plane. That should give you a less deformed area in which to sleep and might allow the existing 'dints' to recover.

I find the most disturbing thing in your report the fact that the inspector told you he acted for both the manufacturer and the ombudsman. If you remain dissatisfied and believe that any reasonable person would, on inspecting the mattress, agree that it is faulty, use the ombudsman anyway. If the same inspector does turn up that would dramatically weaken any defence to a case you brought.

If that fails, and you are absolutely sure that a reasonable person would find the mattress defective, 'write a letter before action' (you can google this) - effectively threatening them with the small claims court.

ANY mattress that comes with an in-built memory foam topper will suffer from not being able to be turned upside-down. In which case rotating 180° in the horizontal plane (as said above) is the only option.
  • Thank you for your response. I have rotated my materess, the recommended times but you just end up in your partners dint. Which I estimate to be over a couple of cm deep. They centre that is like a hump in the middle forces you to roll back into your dint.
My 1st mattress was replaced as they recognised its problem This time a homeserve inspector said he couldnt see any problem. I refused to sign off on it. 11 days later they sent another inspector whom said he could see the problem but it was my base that was at fault. Both previous inspector has thoroughly inspected my base and none had said this previously.
If you look for review for this materess it's hard to find negative ones like I said. I tried to leave them on social media but received a message saying that if I continue to place the review the algorithm with judge them as spam and block me. Which they did. (I have kept all correspondents) I have since looked for my review via a friend and the negative review has disappeared.

It's unusual that you've had 2 faulty mattresses, I've had a Simba for nearly 2 years now and had no problems with it. I turn it every month. What sort of base do you have ?

The poster has already said that it's a "slatted" base.
