EON Ridiculous energy bill

Hi, to keep a long story short we have been battling with eon for a couple of months now over ridiculous energy bills. To give you an idea, despite billing us on 1st October, I have just received another bill from 1st-14th October for £155! ( I have sent them readings but only changed lower by £5) We are at the end of our tether as it seems to be one thing after another, I rang bulb for a quote and they quoted me £45 a month, I know they always quote lower but still i would be happy with £100 a month. The guy at bulb also said the average KWH I gave him based off my bill was stupidly high, it was 23,995 per year according to EON and he said the average was 3,000 ish? Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this.
For some background we are a 2 bedroom house, all electric, economy 7 meter and use storage heaters. However, heaters have been off all summer, only been on for about 3 weeks. Come on 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in evening. My mum lives in a large 4 bed house heating and lights on all the time and pays less than us! HELP!!:(

Have you been reading your meters regularly, sending the readings into your supplier and then checking that your bills & statements correspond with the readings and getting them corrected if they aren't.
This sounds like a classic case of just accepting estimated bills and not bothering to check. Now the supplier has got an actual reading you've got to catch up.
Most likely the reason for the increased DD is to pay back some arrears as well as for paying for your current consumption. If your account is in arrears at this time of the year then you'll really be in debt come the end of March unless your DD is increased.
Ignore the fact that you live in a mud hut and only turn the heaters on once a year. You need to read your meters to establish how much you are using and make sure that the bills are correct. You can't guess your consumption anymore than the energy company can so you need to check your meter readings.
There's no good going to another supplier unless you get this one sorted out using actual readings - do not use estimates.
You should be able to look at your previous bills to find the last one based on an ACTUAL reading to work out how much you've used and then work out how much it should have cost.
The fact that Bulb are offering a silly low DD means that you'll be in the same or even worse position next year if you don't sort it out.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Good morning gee_cooper and welcome to the forums.

Thank you matelodave,

The bill on the 14th October sounds like a revised bill as the first bill was estimated.

I agree with matelodave, there could be a balance on the account from underestimated meter reads and the Direct Debit will need to cover this along with the amount of energy that you're using.

It's best to pop regular reads on to your account and make sure the account is billed up to the reads, you can use the website to produce real time bills and balances.

You can also see your actual usage in kWh and £ spend via the MiData also on your online account, this also shows what we think you might use for the next 12 months, so this is very helpful.

When you know the account is fully billed up to date and accurate, have a look at the Direct Debit manager tool, this let's you change the amount you pay by up to 20% with reads and 5% without.

I hope this helps to get your account, back up and running more accurately.

Thank you
