Cat Clawing Carpet

I'd appreciate any suggestions for stopping one of my cats clawing the carpet.
I have two cats, one of whom chooses the carpet in preference to any more appropriate scratch pad/post. Lupin is delighted with the selection of scratchable items we now have - Albus turns her nose up at them all and attempts to get to Australia via the carpet instead. Her favourite route is via the stair carpet, but any will do.
I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Is your scratching post a tall one? Cats like to stretch out when they scratch, some of them are especially picky in this regard and will ignore scratching posts which are too short.0

I've not found a way to stop mine scratching. One scratches at doors when they're shut and has ruined the carpet outside my bedroom and in the living room, lock them there as they wake me 3am otherwise every night.
Tried pepper, orange oil, various pet behave sprays and calming plug ins. Nothing stops him.0 -
Have you tried putting some mats down (I recommend hessian ones if you don’t mind vacuuming) and also the corrugated cardboard scratch mats. Some cats just like scratching downwards!
Definitely agree with the making sure a scratching post is big and stable enough as well. One of mine uses the scratching post, and also the sisal posts on their cat tree. The other one uses doormats and corrugated cardboard scratch pads.
I’m loving their names by the way!0 -
Doors and walls are easy. Just blu tack tin foil to them. Haven't got a solution for the carpet though. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Thanks, everyone. I've tried everything suggested plus a carpet offcut. She'll use the offcut, but also all the carpet around it. We could just about set up shop with the various options! She'll use a tall post if she's in the conservatory (wooden floor) but won't use it if it's moved to where there's carpet. She goes into ecstasy with one of the posts on the cat tree when dinner is being dished out but doesn't use it otherwise. Her sister uses the lot and leaves the carpet in peace.
I guess it will need to be something other than carpets when they need replaced - sooner rather than later at this rate!
Thanks again for the suggestions.. . .I did not speak out

The names are from Harry Potter. Albus was chosen when she was a he, and by the time we discovered the truth the name had stuck. Just as well she's none the wiser!. . .I did not speak out

Had to read in case someone had a good answer! Mine scratch their posts and the carpet and I don't know how to make them stop scratching the carpet.
It's mostly only little bits, the only serious bit is outside our room when we experimented with shutting them out for the night. We decided to avoid further damage and let them in...Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
Kleeneze...Scratch no More. It is citrus based and stops cats instantly.
In the meantime put some orane /lemon peel down till you can get some.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
When you say her sister uses them all, it makes me wonder if she is using the carpet as that is 'hers' and only hers? Cats do like to have their own things, could you get a post only she can use? (I realise that isn't easy but if she gets scratching it, when only she can, as in while supervised, the other cat might get the message and leave it alone?)
Have you tried a catnip spray to entice her to use the one you want, and maybe something not so nice smelling where she does go?0 -
Strips of Sellotape where they scratch if you can get it to stick works well Also good on furniture when they scratch too but dont use on leather as pulls layers off
