Old Style Daily Wednesday 17th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Sorry I didn't post yesterday but I was having a very sad day. They sneak up and ambush me sometimes and all I can do is stay in bed till it passes. Never mind, I feel better today so I have got up with Steve and had a cup of tea. I have visitors arriving at 9.30 from the local council to discuss adaptations to my house to make it a bit easier for me to get around. I'm kind of dreading it as I don't feel very sociable really but it is necessary so I will suck it up and get on with it.

The kitchen is in a mess so Lilly will have to empty and refill the dishwasher as she didn't do it yesterday . She really takes advantage if I am not feeling well. Every time I think to myself that she is becoming an adult at last she pulls a silly stunt like this, it is exhausting arguing with her especially as she will never admit she is in the wrong.

Steve has loaded the washing machine as we had a pile of towels 4ft high so that is currently swishing away in the kitchen. Once they are all done I need to wash the dogs bedding as it is very whiffy. Hopefully, Lee will bath Bobby as he is the worst culprit as he loves rolling in anything smelly.

I just remembered the grandchildren are appearing this morning before school as their mum has to work an early today. Yay, I will look forward to seeing them.

Better pull some mince out of the freezer for tea tonight, I think I will make a chilli with some jacket potatoes. Lee wants to bake yet again so I will put the potatoes in while he has the oven on to save a few pennies.

Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, taking DS2 with him. DS1 now getting ready for work.

Still dark outside, air feels damp but not raining and cooler.

Dinner last night was chicken with a mushroom sauce with HM egg and veg fried rice - lovely it was. Tonight we're having duck legs in sauce, I'll do mash and veg to go with them.

Work yesterday was ok but they've altered the staffing ratios again and now we're a person down - they have been moved to another job - so we're left to cope on our own - it's doable at the moment because we're not too busy but when we're busy that's not going to work. We were trying to sort staffing for next week and with what we're allowed we're going to struggle.

My last day at work for this week today, a full day, but then I'm not back in until Monday, so that will be a nice break. As always have lots to do.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning. It seems to be a quiet dry morning out there as far as i can tell. Yesterday wa dry and fine as well.

Thank you Dumpling for starting off - I'm sorry to read that you had a bad day yesterday, and i hope you get Lilly to help out. When my family were teens they would never admit they were wrong either, it is tiring trying to get them to see reason.
Having said that, one of my adult children is never in the wrong either, it's really time they grew out of it. I'm awaiting with interest to see what will happen if their child turns out the same!!
Hope you cope with your visitors, and enjoy having your grand children.

We had two of ours last week for a couple of nights, while dusty work was going on in their house. i was up at 3.30am feeding the baby!! Haven't done that for a long time!! His usual time is about 6am, but he must have been extra hungry.

We were really feeling our ages when they went home, talk about tired.

I've been really busy for the last week or so, so haven't posted, I've managed to read back a bit though.

Today, there's nothing much happening, DD is calling in I think, and there's the usual housework.

i defrosted the freezer yesterday, it never takes long, I put bowls of boiling water on the shelves, and the ice soon starts tinkling down. I give it a helping hand though, to speed the process.

That's it really, hope everyone has a good day.

    Take care folks

    Good morning :)

Reasonable sleep last night although still waking at 4 think its a habit now.

OK day with mum yesterday could have been much worse... maybe the brownie trick worked. Thinking about it maybe i could get some special brownies from Amsterdam or as my friends from Canada are visiting next week and they have legalised cannabis today then they could bring mum some Canadian cake :D

Talking of the above (friends visiting) I am as usual down to last minute panic and have 2 days to sort the house to be visitor ready. In that time I also need to clean the car, meal plan order shop and colour my hair. Todays plan is to attack upstairs. My spare room is really just an extension of my wardrobe so I need to clear some room out for them to use along with a good clean and freshen. Then I need to deep clean their bathroom which rarely gets used so needs a good bottom .....how appropriate. Then its my room and ensuite which needs a good scrub Also need to wash all the towels and some of my clothes so it really is a busy one. So here i am committing to doing upstairs today....signed in blood

If you see me around here today boot me out will ya :)

Had a brief call with Holly yesterday and I'm afraid she was still talking about discharge although did promise to wait to speak to the consultant. I am slightly relieved not to see her posting this morning so hopefully she's still there for now. I will update as sonn as I hear

Right off to watch Celebs go dating and Big Brother then its start time. Enjoy your days all

    Morning all

It seems very much colder here this morning, off to work for me and it does tend to warm up during the day.

Auto glass came yesterday to replace the tinted window that they claimed they had not noticed when they put it in last week, and they put a new clear one in, unfortunately they have done something wrong and the rubber seal on the window is all puckered and out of place  so I shall be on the phone to them again today, I must say for the biggest car window firm they have been pretty useless !!]

Not sure if we are going to mums tonight or not, if we are we are having liver and bacon etc, if not we will have pork chop mash and veg at home.

Sending good vibes to Holly for tomorrow I hope all goes well xx

TA thinking of you al xx

Snoozer I meant to say I am excited for your news and I am hoping I have guessed correctly ;)

    Have good days all xxx

    Good morning

Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.

Especially thinking of the TA, her family and Holly

Went out for coffee yesterday and DH wants to go out for lunch today.

    Going to visit mother.

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Dumpling. I hope you have a better day today.

After a very dull day, the skies cleared yesterday and we had quite a mild evening but it has clouded over again though no rain forecast. I don't have specially interesting plans today. I've been up since 4, pootling about and I've watched a film on TV, very decadent.

Thinking particularly of the TA family and of Holly, I do hope that she feels able to manage today and best wishes for her surgery tomorrow.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off Dumpling, sorry to hear you've been sad. The grandchildren will shake that out of you!

Apart from a very long wait at roadworks my drive to Oban was fine. I think the lights got stuck as nothing came through from the other way. A flurry of blokes in yellow jackets got it fixed.

On the road theme, the emergency relief road has been opened overnight, still with a convoy and the main road is still closed.

I got a text at 7am from the JL delivery team saying that they're on the way and hope to arrive between 11.36 and 13.26. Love the precision. :rotfl:

DM told me that her beloved electric blanket wasn't working. As it's less than a year old I dug out the online receipt and sorted out a return and replacement from JL.

I hope Holly can hold on until her op tomorrow. Would be such a shame if it all got too much for her now.

TA - still thinking of you and your family.

Here's wishing everyone a happy Wednesday.

Morning all. Was at the hospital with himself far longer than anticipated, was a bit knackered when we left, then I went to see the friend who lost her mother a couple of weeks ago, she's having a hard time with family being ars*holes, but that seems to be the way when there's a rift and someone dies, the eevils crawl out of the woodwork...
Picc line today, then shopping for the drinking water to flush tomorrows drugs, then home to carry on painting, then a friend is coming round, then I have sewing lessons. The waistband is nearly finished, I have to overlock the side seams before I go, but then all that's left is the overstitching and the bottom hem. Next project will be recovering the sofa I wombled, and recover my mothers old chair. Already done it once but it's looking a bit ratty now, one of the springs has popped out the back, so it needs re-fixing.
Oh, and finish the porch by Christmas - new ceiling, rewire attach new light, sand and paint front door...

Sorry about your bad day dumpling, maybe a SAD lamp or some daylight bulbs would help? Hope you get your work sorted out nmlc, it's no fun when you're expected to do the same as always with a man down.OL, nice to know that you reciprocate what you get. I should try that one...at least you got cake though :) Nelski, haha!! do it do it....RR, third time lucky then hopefully...SO, enjoy your peripatetic day :) Hope you're ok Poppy. Hugs and stuff for anyone who is in need of some, pep talks and brooms for those that need them.
    Happy Wednesday, times is flying....

Good Morning, everybody :hello: - still very dull looking at the moment here, though we have a fairly good forecast ahead for the day. Promise of 14C - IF they're to be believed ;)!

dumpling - thank you for starting the thread for today. Sorry to hear that you had 'a very down-day' yesterday and hoping that your visit from the council results in whatever adaptations you need. Teenagers - oh yes, we're there at the moment with DGS1 (rolleyes smilie) ;)! A dog that we had, in the past, used to love rolling in 'fox pee' - so we became very used to extremely whiffy doggie bedding .
nmlc - hope your work management get to sort out staffing levels for you. Strange how those who makeall the staffing decision, never suffer the consequences .
ScarletRibbons - oh dear, DGK's - so wonderful to have them stay over ....................... but oh-so-lovely to see them go home ;)!
Organza_Lace - hope that your DH and DD manage to sort out their situation with each other. It's horrible when we become 'piggy-in-the-middle' of their differences :(.
Nelski - wow you've got a busy couple of days ahead - try to breath as you go :). Thanks for keeping us updated with HH and her ups/downs and praying that she stays where she is - as nothing would be served by her discharging herself, especially at this stage of things. Lol at 'Canadian Cake' for your DM :rotfl:.
redruby - what on earth were Autoglass thinking of when they replaced your windscreen! Hope they sort if all properly - you deserve some kind of 'recompense' for all your hassle ;)!
silver-oldie - one of the perks of being retired .................... being able to pop for coffee and lunch out whenever the whim takes you - enjoy ;)!
ancientofdays - sorry to read that you're another who has trouble sleeping properly :(. At least, these days, we can have the option of watching a movie if we can't sleep - better than years ago when no night/early morning TV or recording devices ;)!
Gers - sounds like something needs serious attention on that Oban road if it's closed all this time :(. If it was just a tree, it would have been long gone by now. Well done to JL for their delivery promise AND the replacement blanket :j.
-taff - busy day ahead! Enjoy your sewing and good luck with the re-covering project :D.

((((HEALING HUGS)))) for TA, HH and all who need them

I've got another day of Nathan-sitting today - could do with getting him to come out somewhere with meas I don't like him being stuck at home all day. If DD needs any shopping, I'll get him to come out with me - though it may need a promise of some type of Hallowe'en decoration from Wilkos or The Range. He loves doing up the front of their house for Hallowe'en and Christmas ;)!

Also got Bible Study at church this evening with a group of friends - I'll be going straight there from DD's. Not worth going home first - I'll get all cosy/warm, then won't feel like going back out again :(.

    Catch-up with Emmerdale/Corrie when I get back later ;)!
