Vacuum Cleaners

Didn't quite know where to put this, but as it's home related and there is no board for recommendations (that I could see) here goes. What vacuum would you recommend that will pick up (without effort!) longish cat hair, that has the properties of velcro? At the minute I have a Shark (corded) and it seems to have no suck at all,I don't like it at all :(

Seeing the price of the Miele suggestion, have you considered the MSE solution of training the cat to pick it's own hairs up? If it can be done with an OH, then surely it wouldn't be too hard to do with a cat? ;)

Whatever you buy, the secret is always going to be regular maintenance of filters and bags (if you have them)... and if the problem is with the hairs acting like velcro then I'd have thought the answer was having the right kind of brush attachment rather than the amount of suck.

  • I recently bought a new vacuum - completely on price I have to say - the Vax UCNBAWP1 Power Nano Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner, 850 W, 2 Liters, Grey cost me £60 and has been amazing!!!

I empty the tube thing after every whizz round as it takes up so much rubbish!! I have a little pooch which molts all the time and this vac takes cares of it no hassle at all.

We have a Miele Cat & Dog. The turbo brush head need regular clearing out of long hairs wrapped around the spindle (every time it's used really). We had a CKCS dog, but the same applies to my granddaughter and D-i-L's long hair when they stay.

Short hairs may be less of an issue.

We selected on suction and noise levels when working... it is pretty quiet!

I had a look at the Miele and it would have been ideal.......if it was an upright. I just can't get away with a cylinder hoover. I might just give the Vax a go, thanks for your replies folks :)

EP, I've given the cat a brush so she can brush herself down, but not meeting with much success just now :D
  • I've had a Miele and was really pleased with it. Currently have Dyson cat & dog, love it. I have the cylinder but I'm sure upright is as good

Miele are good but.... Replacement parts are scarily expensive!

The Miele Cat and Dog copes well with the cats hair, and more importantly mine

The MSE way is to use a slicker brush

On the carpets, not the cat :)

Seriously, it lifts pet hair better then any vacuum and its also great on stair carpets. Been using a slicker for years and years

I just invested in a Dyson Small Ball Animal after our old Hoover gave up the ghost and am really impressed. The turbo tool is fab as the heads rotate in different directions , the amount of cat fur it collects makes me wonder how our mog isn't bald! (I don't actually use it on the cat i hasten to add)

On the other hand I also bought (in between) a reconditioned Vax which not only nearly electrocuted me, but felt flimsy and you couldn't take the hose out because it was fixed with a clip. didn't get on with it at all.
