I would rather !!!! on my hands and clap than run one.
Pigs of things at the time. Pigs of things now.
I'd rather shake hands with motorguy than run one. And that's coming from someone who used to own one. Had it 18 months, think it went wrong about 12 times in that space of time. Ironically the first coming less than a week out of the 6 month warranty.0 -
Well, that just about decides that one, then! Thanks for the extensive research, Motorguy

Plenty more about. I'll give this one a swerve. Thanks all for the observations. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
It's an engine that's in a huge number of cars across quite a few brands.
BUT it's an engine that needs careful oil changing - don't let the intervals stretch, don't use the wrong oil, don't just do a "partial" change. Follow that, it'll be fine. Don't, and you'll get sludging which will kill a lot of things in short order.0 -
*I* will - it's a question of whether the previous two owners did. That's an unknown quantity at present. It's an engine that's in a huge number of cars across quite a few brands.

All great if you're buying one new - and i fully concur with what you're saying. The problem is the O/P is looking at a 10 year old one. You've no idea about the servicing regime by the various previous owners, or the state of the internals of the engine.0 -

Sadly my extensive research on them was through experience of them at the time when i was motor trading. I'd one innocent little Focus cost me around £3,000 to get running right.
Various issues with them in Peugeots too at the time. We got to the point where we refused to take them as trade ins or underwrite them, no matter how good they seemed.
Finding those examples too around 5 mins - which shows just how prevalent the issue still is.
Walk away. In fact - RUN!0
