Quick query - Ford 1.6 Tdci
Just a quick one - I am considering buying a Ford Focus with the 1.6 Tdci engine. I've had the 2 litre Tdci in a Mondeo and thought it was great, but I seem to remember people advising against the 1.6.
Are there any issues? If so, what? Advice for or against? The car seems good otherwise.
Many thanks!

Take a look on https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/ to see what issues there with it.0

Thanks for this. Generally good review with warnings about DPF, DMF and turbo failure at high mileage - pretty much as expected. I was hoping some of the good folk on here might have some personal experience or trade knowledge to pad this out a bit.
I'm sure I have read on here that the 1.6 was the one to avoid, but I can't find the thread(s) to research further.

I also remember something about the 1.6 being the worst of the diesels, maybe a comment on here somewhere, but try a ford owners forum for more detail?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

This is IIRC the same engine used in various brands including Peugeot, Citroen and Volvo.
Possible issues with turbo oil feed being blocked resulting in a knackered turbo.
I would suggest if looking at an older car any issue should have been fixed by now.

I had a 1.6tdci enegine on 2012 plate fiesta.
Sold the car with 150,000 miles on the clock.
I did not get any engine issues.
I got me a good 60+ MPG while driving 75% of the time on dual carriageways driving around 65mph.
Could have been a bit more nippy.
So my personal experience was fine.0 -

Ironically, the only one i saw that didnt give problems was a 160,000 miler example. It seems high miles and regular maintenance kept the oil ways clear.
But not worth the risk buying one IMHO. Its like playing russian roulette.0 -
Is it not the case that higher mileage examples may be ok owing to mostly constant speed motorway driving, rather than shorter journeys, which those diesels don't like?0

Could be. Who knows what running a 10 year old car has had, or what repairs it has needed, or what repairs it needs, or what the seller knows that you dont know.
Just too much of a risk with them. Bad turbo / oilways setup on them.
Oh, and O/P - avoid the "new turbo just fitted" examples, as very very few people know how to clean out the oil ways or even bother so it'll take another turbo in the next 1000 miles.0
