First Direct Mini Isa

WHAT A HORROR! I applied online for a First Direct Mini Isa. Received application form sent off my cheque. Nothing. After 3 weeks my bank statement confirmed my cheque had been cashed. Phoned First Direct to ask if THEY had cashed it and if so, where was my account info. Because I had an old First Direct Account (which was closed months before, and all the stationery destroyed) THEY refused to speak to me unless I could remember the PASSWORDS for my CLOSED ACCOUNT!. Spent 55 minutes on phone- THEY WOULD NOT EVEN CONFIRM THEY HAD RECEIVED A CHEQUE FROM ME! Eventually got thru to their ISA department where they said YES I had an account, and insisted they had acknowledged on line (which they hadn't), had sent me a welcome pack with my account number (why would I spend 55 minutes on the phone asking if they had received my cheque if this was true?) Finally, exasperated I said my blood pressure wouldn't take any more and I wanted to close it (there is a 14 day cancellation period) NO, they said , as it was beyond 14 days, if I cancelled then I would not be able to open another mini ISA till 2006. Even tho' nothing was my fault, 4 robots - sorry people - at First Direct refused to speak to me. I just WISH I had chosen someone else. Now I am stuck with them for a whole year................

You can transfer ISAs anytime you like.

Just pick a new supplier and ask them to do the transfer and they will do the rest.

Don't transfer now! Anyway you will do it in Oct when introductory rate ends.

I had numerous problems trying to open a FD ISA for the current tax year, then transfer when introductory rate ended, eventually gave up and went elswhere. Lost a bit of interest, but what the heck?
Possibly it had something to do with me recently closing FD current account after receiving £25 "gift"!!?

I applied for the FD mini ISA at the end of March 05 and it was opened really quickly without any problems. I even managed to transfer my allowance for 2004 on 5th april 05. Lucky !
