Still makes me want to move to London though. :)

Raveboy: Make it Call of Duty 4 and you have yourself a date ;):p

So you are telling me a free walk in the park on a cold and wet winters night is better than sitting indoors in the warmth and playing one of the greatest ever games available on XBOX 360 like Gears of War on a 50" flat screen tv and top of the range surround sound system?

Personally I'd prefer an evening with my girlfriend to playing on a computer game. I can certainly live without a games console, and I imagine most other people could if they put their minds to it!

You don't want to spend on a TV licence but you want to buy an Xbox.
You think France is the best place in the world but you come back here eventually.
You want cheap food but won't spend the time to make it.
You want things to be cheaper so that you can buy even more just as you have done on clothes which have never been cheaper.
You don't want to pay any taxes but you all want government services.

I certainly do NOT want to buy an Xbox - whatever that is. I consider the license fee extortionate for a poorer service than when I left the UK when it was only around £55 for more quality broadcasting.

I DO NOT consider France 'the best place in the world', I consider it as an agreeable place to live and returned because my elderly sister was ill and needed support.

I want good tasty nutritious food - not the rubbish over-processed stuff of most supermarkets - and I DO make meals from scratch.

As for clothes - I certainly DO NOT want more and only buy the very occasional good quality item.

And I DO pay taxes - my modest pension IS taxed.

Perhaps you should think outside the box before you make sweeping statements.

Is that a 'low pleasure threshold' ......... or simply immaturity?;)

    Touchy, touchy, littleowl! ;)

You missed a very important clue in the first line that RayWolfe's comments weren't solely aimed at you - except perhaps for the comment about France.
    You're all mad!
Perhaps you should read what's in the box before you get too

I think France is a very agreeable place to go for my cheap booze just a shame about the cheese eating surrender monkeys who refuse to understand the Queens english no matter how loud you shout at them, strike for the slightest excuse and always want to ban our Beef, lamb or whatever! Damned awkward squad if you ask me! ;)

Don't recall you mentioning recently-pressed shirts...

I am well aware that all the comments weren't aimed at me.

RayWolf - perhaps you misunderstand the meaning of the word 'Irony'?

I am merely pointing out that I, personally, do consider that Britain has become - to quote the OP - something of a 'rip off society'. From personal experience - and I wouldn't therefor dream of including anyone else in this - I feel that we pay over the odds for many services and products - more that is than in many parts of Europe. I am finding it hard to keep my head above water here on the same income as I had outside the UK.

How odd then that you should feel the need to reply to them as if they were!
  • I also keep a daily eye on my account and in fact my bank is my opening homepage. If I can`t afford it then I simply DO NOT BUY it

Bring on car tax by mileage. Much fairer.

I agree that foodstuffs appear to be more expensive but who cares about DVDs levis and console games. They are not necessities. Foods can be bought cheaper by shopping at stores like aldi and lidl (see the old style thread) and clothes are available at peacocks

Naturally we must be taxed, after all who is going to pay for all the handouts? We should be getting back to basics ie handouts only to the genuine needy and not scroungers. Goodness knows how much of our taxes goes to Joe down the road who can`t get off his butt to do a bit of work or to miss XYZ with one child every year, fatherless of course, or to Jim immigrant who quickly learns how to suck the system

We are being bled dry and only the very strong willed (or rich) will be able to survive
