This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Very sad day yesterday with the loss of Bob. Thinking about TA and her family lots and hope all the love shared by everyone on this thread was a small comfort.
Really dark still so no weather check ..it gets more winter like everyday.
My friend who bakes for a living came round last night with a big tupperware box of samples she had been testing ready for the Christmas markets. So I had 5 different brownie flavours including chocolate orange, wagon wheels and cream eggs also some new christmas cookies, various fudge flavours and some macaroons all to taste for quality....it was a dirty job but someone had to do it
Enough left to last me the week now bye bye Monday diet
Working today with a big list to deal with. Food wise I could do with a freezer rummage so maybe a chilli.
Hope everyone has the best day they can

Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one, thinking especially of the the TA's and all the poorlies and carers/families/friends x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, very wet underfoot, rained pretty much all day yesterday and similar forecast for today.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.
Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Meat had lovely flavour but was more fatty than usual. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
Yesterday boys went to visit my parents whilst I prepped and cooked the lunch, we went to visit friends in the afternoon, boys chilled at home. We also stopped off at the big orange shed shop and picked up some paint match pots as DH is going to re-paint the kitchen in November when he has some hols to use up from work, can't decide on a colour.
Back to work for me today, I have the most hated job this morning, but I've done this sort of work in a much bigger setting and as pressurized, the whole problem at the moment is they don't have enough staff on a Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Still dark and dreary outside and it feels a lot colder here this morning too. Steve has gone off to work and the kids are still asleep so it's just me and my Bobby asleep on my foot. Max is snoozing in his bed too so it's a very sleepy household here today.
I finished knitting the reindeer but I had to bin it in the end as the pattern was weird and when it was sewn up it looked like roadkill
. As I don't want some child to have nightmares I chucked it and will stick to tried and trusted designers. I am two thirds of a way through yet another scarf and then will look for something fun to make.
Need to get Lee to go on a freezer rummage today as I have lost track yet again what we have. If he can find some mince I will make an indian spiced cottage pie with bombay potato topping. It is a Slimming World recipe from one of their magazines and it is so nice. Failing that, we have some fish so I will make some fishcakes. I know which one I prefer
.
Sending out a load of love to TA and her family today as they come to terms with losing Bob xx
Thinking of Holly too and all the other poorly and worried xx
I hope you all manage to have a good day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning

TravellingAbuela I'm so so sorry x Sending lots of love to you and your family xx
…......
Long time, no speak
I've been in the kitchen, chopping and freezing veg. There's plenty to keep us going for quite a while. Though I never want to chop another tomato, I'm sick of the sight of them
There will be lots of stews and pasta meals in the near future. I've also been to Cornwall, we stayed on the edge of Bodmin Moor in a 200 year old cottage with a lovely big woodburner, which was lit every night whether it was needed or not, lol. Apart from birds and squirrels in the massive trees around us, it was silent. Bliss. We had to block some steps to the higher part of the garden, Scampi explored up there and managed to get onto the garage roof, lol.
There's still plenty to do in the garden so I go out there for at least an hour every day. We've had strong winds and rain lately so it's all been little things like sorting and cleaning pots and weeding. It's still raining now and is a bit breezy, hopefully it'll stop soon so I can stuck in properly.
I've been busy with crochet too, I have four designs now. I'm not good at writing out patterns though, so sharing them is difficult, lol. I don't know anyone who can help me, so I need to find a good website that teaches this sort of thing.
Mum and dad popped round, nan had left us grandchildren £250 each and I promised I would spend this on myself. So I'm going to buy Rhonda Jean's books (she stopped posting on her blog about a month ago but does little updates on instagram) and maybe replace my copy of the dairy cookbook, it's very tatty now. Not sure what to do with the rest yet. I knew she liked Christmas Eve at my house but I didn't realise until her funeral that she LOVED it so maybe a nice Christmassy candle holder to go on the mantlepiece when family come round.
Just seen a mouse run across the kitchen so I need to find the trap (in the shed somewhere) and fill it with peanut butter. I hope I catch it before Scampi sees it or there will be chaos

Just popping back on to say Hi to tru, it's so nice to see you posting again, I have missed your tales of Scampi xx0

Morning all
Feels a lot colder here this morning, yesterday we took madam out for her walk and once we were back the rain started and the wind was howling and it didn't stop all night, we lit the log burner and laid on a sofa each and watched a film it was bliss and so cosy.
Back to reality and work today, OH has hurt his back so has taken the day off, him and pup can stay at home.
Not sure about dinner tonight, there is mince pork chops and pizza in the fridge and loads in the freezer so we wont starve.
Ive been thinking of TA and dear Bob, I do hope she is ok and coping and has plenty of support xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all,
Just a quick one from me as the HT has invited his friend round to have a lift to school with us so I need to get dressed. I'm going running today for the first time in ages as the cold has gone. Back to healthy eating and exercise - I am aiming for my first 5k race in May which seems a long way away but I am the slowest runner in Merseyside. Home made cottage pie and veg out of the freezer for tonight.
Much love to the TA family.
Thinking of Holly and hope Speky's gran is doing OK too.
Take care all of you

Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - only just getting daylight here, with a dull day ahead on the forecast for us. 'Possibility of rain' around 10:00 am - but OK after that ........................ wonder if I can trust them on that one :undecided.
Nelski - thank you for starting the thread this morning. What a lovely evening you had yesterday - yummy food tasting session - tough job, but somebody just HAS to do it
!
nmlc - sounds like you had a fabulous 'family sunday' - hope your work day goes well today
.
dumpling - having a chuckle at your 'roadkill reindeer' :rotfl:. I've had some disastrous results with knitting reindeer at this time of year. Last year's were 'mug cosies' with reindeer heads on them .................. couldn't get your mouth near the mug due to the size of the heads
!
tru - your visit to Bodmin sounds absolutely idyllic at this time of year
. Good luck with capturing 'Mickey'
.
bellabella - hope you enjoy your visit from DD and your morning walk
.
redruby - definitely feels cooler here this morning too - probably the very dark start to the mornings at the moment. Brief respite from that after we 'put the clocks back', but even that won't last for very long
.
Organza Lace - lol at you having a 'Homes Under The Hammer' day - for me it was 'Four In A Bed' and 'Can't Pay, We'll Take It Away'
.
Cranky 40 - enjoy your training and fitness regime
- I didn't realise that you're also in the Merseyside Region. Me too - I'm in Prescot, out in Woollyback Land
!
Also thinking about TA and her family - I'm sure that they'll have whatever support and assistance they'll need to get through the next couple of weeks. I've found that it's the time 'just after the funeral' that feel particularly empty - as life struggles to find 'a new normality'
. Prayers for everybody.
I'm 'back on the rota' for the charity shop from today ...................... need to be there for the Afternoon Shift (12.30-4.30). Really need to resist getting side-tracked into any 'oh-I-need-that' purchases
. Will call into ASDA for lunch before the shift starts - their cafe does Jacket Potato with Cheese 'n' Beans for £1, which has to be the biggest bargain of the day :j!
Just going for my 2nd :coffee: and some toast for breakfast.
Hope everybdy has a good 'Oldstyle Day' - take care - Ollie xx0 -
Morning all! Someone will be round for the drain this morning, turn out, it isn't the toilet it's the serwer, and before I talked tot he neighbours, i organised someone to come round. Turns out, three neighbours are blocked up and we don't know where the blockage is, so will wait and see what happens after. Had I talked to the neighbours first, it would have been the water boards responsibility...Oh well...what's done is done....
Made two lots of chicken based gubbins last night as couldn't be bothered to freeze the chicken that had been in the fridge, so it's a choice of jambalaya or chicken casserole tonight. The rest will go as freezer ready meals.
Went to Dobbies yesterday too, saw a quince tree for 49, thought about it but I don't think it would have fitted in the car, although depending on whether I sell the fire soon, will inform whether I cave or not.....I've been looking online for one but all the types I was after are sold out...
Have booked my future post-chemo, pre-op self up for a course in sort-of 'building', hopefully I'll get a place, it looks like fin, building with new type brick things that are hollow that you fill with concrete. We will eventually be making a shed at the bottom of the garden, but it will be a big shed, big enough for gaming/sewing/log burner....Trying out new things instead of traditional woddenn construction..
Loving the chocolate overdoes nelski, good luck in work nmlc, I laughed at the roadkill reindeer too
, quite jealous of your bushels of produce pru, even if you aren't
, bella, enjoy, redruby, yep, they are magic words, log burner....OL, glad you had some time doing nothing with your OH, enjoy running cranky..
Hope today is good for everyone, still sending hugs and stuff to thems that need them though....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good morning everyone.
A calm and dry morning here, so far. Yesterday we had bright blue skies with a gentle breeze so I washed two small cotton rugs and got them out on the line
Today I have admin work to do. College is on half term so my week is mostly free.
Huge love to the TA family. ❤️
Lovely to hear from you Tru.
Happy Monday to all.0
