It can't be Asda policy
Surely someone has made a mistake on their website, and their other staff lack either the training or common sense or access to internal paths to sorting it out.0 -
Well, I got a call back from a manager at 5:30. He confirmed that Asda really will charge me 20p to receive texts in India. I pointed out to him that (a) I can't control what texts I receive, (b) no other network does this. He agreed with both these points but said there's nothing he could do (which I suppose is fair enough: he doesn't set the policy).
So I think this means the advice at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-roaming-calls/ is incorrect for Asda: point 4 says "it's free to receive texts anywhere worldwide, so ask friends to message you, not call". Does anyone know how to advise MSE of this, so they can update the site?0 -
Thanks, I've notified MSE via that link.0

Calls and texts are two different things.
A network can charge for terminating text messages but if the host network (EE) doesn't charge, I seriously doubt a jointly owned/run virtual network will have a system for doing so.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Another thing that's just surprised me about Asda mobile: Apparently they don't have the facility to donate to charity by text. I am switching away from them ahead of my trip abroad, and I'd wanted to use my credit up - so I figured I'd donate it. No can do, it turns out! Again, I've confirmed this with a call to their customer support.0

Many MVNO's don't support short codes, Plusnet for instance. I think Sky Mobile have only recently started support for them but only for a limited subset from memory.0
