To be fair even some nice new loos can be quite disgusting after a couple of hours use by members of the public, I travel a lot for my job and some washrooms are really minging, even if they are regularly cleaned.

I agree about the food and service though, generally the food in store cafes is overpriced and badly presented and service doesn't seem to exist anymore in British shops. The assistants barge past customers, don't say please or thank you or just ignore you when you want to pay. I make a point of telling good shop assistants that they are doing a great job, hopefully they will continue to do so and others might learn from them.

I've never been to Manchester but know there is a John Lewis there. We always go to the one in Norwich for scone and coffee and all the food looks marvellous. The toilets are always clean too. Only problem is it's too popular.

There are 2 John Lewis stores in the Mnchester area, one in Cheadle ans the other at the Trafford Centre, there used to be a Lewis's in the city centre but it's a Primark now...;)

  • The Lewis's that was in Manchester was not related to John Lewis.

  • Visited the "sales" in debenhams the other day, the entire place was a complete dive, the ceiling was full of mould in one corner the tables were filthy in every way and some of the seats were ripped! They were charging outrageous prices throughout the whole store!

even the staff are trying to defend the place!
  • I'm not sure what I was thinking at the time but I decided to visit the restaurant at Debenhams in Manchester city centre, thinking it may be a little better than it was before.

Oh boy was I wrong! After seeing other people being pushed from pillar to post not knowing which counter to go to I thought I'd just order a plate of chips and pick up a scone for my self of the self serve bit.
I had my little girl walking with me and no pram so I wanted to be quick because the trays tend to be VERY slippy and I wanted a brew.
When I was told to go to a different counter for my chips, I was served re-fried brown things with black bits at the ends I can count on my hands how may chips there actually were! I got a miniscule pot of horrible tea and an orange drink.
Now, I was charged 1.60 for the s**t chips and the bill came to 5 pound something for the whole thing. When I opened the clotted cream it was all yellow and crusty on top, I dread to think how long it had been clotted for!!!

Anyway, at the end of this I needed a trip to the ladies, well they were worse than the last time I went which was a good year ago! They stank of crap, there were no intact locks on the door and there was urine on one of the seats as well as half the cubicle lights being out!

For gods sake! They charge enough for the rubbish they sell they could at least provide decent toilets!! I should have learned from my last visit, DO NOT go there for a decent plate of grub!

sounds like house of fraser in cheltenham (cavendish house) haven't been for a while but last time i went in was hideous. it wouldn't be quite as terrible if they charged less, but it costs a fortune for what you get!
Wins since June: iPod shuffle 1gb, Samsung g800, cinema ticket, lush retro giftbox, 2x mp3 downloads, a big box of food (???)
