  • Started today with £12 and not had any spends today. Lunch was a dominos provided by work so there are perks to the job ha.

I’ve been putting £50 away a month for a weekend away with my boyfriend in the Summer and he’s now being very non committal about going away despite it being his idea! He’s concerned about money because he’s still a student but it’s so frustrating that I’ve been saving and looking forward to going away and now it looks like I’m not. I’ll keep putting money away and at least if I don’t go away I can throw the money at my debts or savings.

  • Started today with £24 and bought two boxes of green tea from Mr T at lunch for £1.50. I’ve definitely not got an excuse to go to coffee shop now!

Met up with my mum who was down this way for work and we went for dinner at a lovely Portuguese restaurant. She very kindly paid so no spend incurred there.

    Ending today on £22.50

  • Hi Impulse Spender,
I love your £12 a day challenge. Is this a challenge somewhere on the forum or one you thought of yourself? Are there any rules to follow? I'd be interested in giving it a go myself!
    Best wishes,

  • Hi SavingAFuture,

I got the inspiration from Charhen19 whose diary is on the forum. I think she started with £12 and then found that comfortable and so kept taking it down by £1 each month. I think she might be on £9 now

Regarding rules, it’s what works for you. So my DD are excluded and I often exclude petrol because I commute quite heavily for my work. I will use some for petrol if I think I can get away with it. I roll over the £12 each day or what’s left of it and then currently I’m storing away the extra so I can’t spend it too easily.

Some people do it with cash too whereas I do it with my account. So I transfer £12 a day from my current account to monzo. Again it’s what works for you.

I think there might be a challenge board on here for daily limit challenges but I don’t follow one but I really should if there is one!

  • Started today with £34.50 and was working from another office and completely forgot my lunch so had to buy some. That was a spend of £5.40. Just shows you how expensive it would work out not preparing lunch normally!

I then said I’d go to the cinema on Friday night with some friend so I paid for my ticket which was £14.80. Need to make sure I resist the popcorn while I’m there!

So ending today on £14.30. Can’t think of any spends for tomorrow so looks like it will be a NSD hopefully!!

  • Today was a bit naughty with regards to spending. I bought coffee and breakfast when I got to work which came to £3.35 and then for dinner I bought some tortellini which was £3.02.

So I started today off with £26.30 and ending with £19.93.

Working from home tomorrow and then going to the cinema in the evening where I will avoid treats. My flat mate and I have agreed we’ll cook before the dinner so that means I won’t have to eat out which I was worried about.

  • Dear Diary, I have a confession.

So Friday was okay, I went the cinema and bought some popcorn and water which set me back £7.80.

    However Saturday...
I needed to get some groceries so I went to Mr Ts. Groceries came to £25.83 which was okay. My mistake was when I looked at the clothes. I needed a pair of jeans so thought I'd have a look but then I also saw a top, dress and pair of shoes. To cut a long story short the clothes came to £64.50  which isn't great but split between 4 items works out at around £16 each which isn't too bad. Everything was accounted for in YNAB and within budget. Plus I get my points from Mr T.

I obviously didn't have enough left over from earlier in the week and so had to move over the money saved from the week before and then some from my current account. I didn't give myself £12 today due to yesterday.

Starting with £12 again tomorrow and onwards. Meals are all planned out and bought for so shouldn't incur too many spends during the week.

  • Started today with £12. Was working from home so at lunch I had to go back to Mr Ts as the security tags had been left on the clothes I bought. While I was there I picked up some soup, a roll and some yoghurts. Full of cold and all I wanted was nice hot soup. That came to £3.95 so ending today with £9.28.

  • Tuesday - Was a NSD so ended the day with £21.28

Wednesday - Started the day with £33.28 and spent £1.65 on a coffee so ended with £31.63.

Thursday - Started with £43.63. Wheels came off a bit today. Bought lunch which was £4.00 and then got something from the Chinese for tea which was £13.30. Ended with £26.33.

Bought lunch today because I was working from home and really fancied a jacket potato. There's a really good, cute local cafe on my road which I got it from. I always like to eat there occasionally as I feel better buying from a local business.
