Best pickup 4x4?
Which is the best 4x4 pickup with back canopy - Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Nirvana etc?
Economy, reliability, usability and 3.5 tonne towing capacity being important.
Also, are they much more expensive to insure and run than a car/van?

Economical
Wants 3.5 tonne towing capacity.
You don't get a 4x4 pickup if you want fuel economy. Yes they are more expensive to run and insure than a car/van. Wife gets 40MPG out of her Renault Trafic, 33MPG when towing a 26ft twin axle caravan. You're going to be lucky to see within 5MPG of what she gets when towing without a trailer on.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. What is it you want to tow?0

Land Rover Defender, holding their value so what you might loose on MPG you make back on less depreciation.0

My other half had a Navara, the only one of those it wasn't is economical. Also, are they much more expensive to insure and run than a car/van?
Yes.0 -
All proper Land Rovers have a 3.5t towing capacity. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

What's the budget? Older L200's and Navara's can't tow as much as 3500kg, but the newer ones can.
What are you trying to do? Do you need to tow 3500kg AND have stuff in the bed?
This site: http://pickupand4x4.co.uk/best-pickup-for-towing recommends the Isuzu D-Max but I'm not familiar with it.
Ifor Williams will do you a canopy for most truck beds.
Economy will be dreadful, reliability will be high, useability will depend on what you're doing. It'll definitely be more expensive to run than a car or a van.0 -
Nivara, no for towing. L200, no for driving. Hilux, can't quite rember but don't think it meets the towing grade otherwise good. Isuzu probbably the best option. Defender best off road and towing. Terrible on road and will break down and of course out of production. New Ranger seems good as a a vehicle no experience of it towing. Vw and merc, no experience, fiat is an expensive l200. G wagon 6x6 amg. Looks good and would probably tow fine but rare and probbably not very money saving.0
