I put down the Wilko repellent and the cats seemed to like it because about 5 minutes later, there they were.......

If it's shingle, it's water worn, which is easier and nicer to walk on/dig in, if you're a cat, than angular bits of 20-30mm granite, which is what people use round my way...if they're in the know.
My cats purposefully avoid that sort of surface, but then they don't crap on places like driveways.....which could also be a clue. I have never had much of a problem with cat poo, because in the places I've lived, there are areas of bare, dry soil under hedges where they go.
The key might be to provide an alternative, rather than scattering Jeyes fluid flavoured tea bags every ten minutes and making your drive smell like a public bog. Let's face it, that's no life either!0 -
This stuff is actually pretty effective - it's basically pellets soaked in lion dung (it doesn't smell) and works on the basis that cat's will avoid it because they think a bigger cat (aka Mr Lion) has marked the area. Depending on the size of area, you'll need a couple of boxes.
I did find it worked for a bit on our shingle drive and certainly seemed to reduce the number of cats using it.
