  • The Christmas tree is up and the living room looking all festive and twinkly. My DF even popped round to help us finish the wallpapering before sticking the tree up. It feels so much more magical already compared to the mad rush we had last year. DSS was even adorning our little bay trees by the front door with battery lights.

I managed to collect the last couple of present orders last night so I'm on track for my day of wrapping presents, Christmas music and mince pies on Saturday. Just praying I don't run out of ribbon and other assorted embellishments . . . not that I go overboard or anything :rotfl:

Christmas tree went up on Sunday whilst we drank mulled wine and listened to Christmas songs.

Have written all my cards and wrapped 80% of the (very small amount of) presents. Just want to buy OH socks, hankies, a microwave steamer (long story!) and a jumper.

Am making the Xmas cake a little late - tomorrow - and will also deliver the neighbours cards in my lunch break.

Managed to pick up a beauty advent calendar half price from Wilko yesterday, for DD next year. Will buy cards for next year in January. Will only save a quid or so as we only send about 20-30 but every little helps :D

A couple of things have come to my attention that deviate significantly from the Christmas spirit:

    1) Churches seem to be charging for their carol services, the going rate seems to be £8 for adults and £1 for under-5s. When did the collection plate stop and chargeable tickets start?

    2) I read that there is a thief pinching Christmas wreaths from front doors locally.

    Hello all
I have snaffled away some pork loin into the freezer and bought a few bottles of wine :j. Dad turned up with 2 small turkey crowns and I already had an extra large crown and a large turkey, so if we get snowed in it's all round to mine for turkey and wine :rotfl:.
The decorations and tree will go up tomorrow but I will have to be stern with DH or it will look like Santa's grotto, again. Oh I long for an elegant tree. He's already been mistaken for the man once this week . ( he does have a white beard, hair and is a bit portly :rotfl:. )

Everything's been gentrified increasingly in the last 10 years. You used to be able to do loads of things free, that are now chargeable. Local fetes, car boots, craft fairs, village/town fireworks ... things just used to be free, everybody went, everybody mingled and chatted. Now you have to have a burning passion to go somewhere as they want your money.

It's not just entry fees that everybody's been slapping on ... things the poor used to rely on have disappeared too... charity shops are expensive, Lidl/Aldi were budget supermarkets and now they sell middle class things.

The country is gentrifying, because every bugg4h wants your cash out of your pocket and into theirs.

No wonder there's so much "loneliness" ... I wonder how many little old dears will be staying home alone and stroking their cats on the night of those carol services....

Just added all the little presents I need to my weekly shop - chocolates for my social worker and wine to take on Christmas day. Think I am officially done shopping now!

I went to a (free) Carol service this afternoon, and it was very welcoming. I was happy to make a generous donation and walked out with love for mankind restored.

  • I'm almost done, just the last minute fresh stuff to get :j. The Xmas cakes have been fed weekly and will be marzipaned next week ready to be iced. :xmassmile

My good deed for today was to help a man in a wheelchair through the tills in As*a. I shall now go and polish my halo :rotfl:
Hope everyones preparations are still on track.

Carol service plus mince pie this evening :)

Now enjoying my Irish Cream and have pimped up my sad old wreath with some flashy baubles and metallic bead ribbons procured for pennies (well, under £1 in total) from the chazzer whilst catching up on Kirsty: it's hanging on the front door looking rather chic. She is inspiring me to do simple crafts with my niece next week.
