Amazon Refund

I know I'm in the wrong place so apologies but i just had to post a thank you.

I read the article on Amazon and Prime quite by chance, went hunting and found they had taken £79 out of my bank account in April without my permission. I hadn't signed up for Prime.I can't decide who I was more mad at, them or me for missing it on my bank statement.

I let rip and it turned out they had done it for two years running! There's no excuse. I should have been more on the ball.

Thank you once again MSE.

The Praise, Vent & Warnings Board or The Site Feedback Board was the place for this. PM a board guide to get this moved over. :)

You must have ticked a box when ordering item for next day delivery/amazon trial

While it's easy enough to tick a box unthinkingly (perhaps offering a free trial) and then forget, you can hardly allege that they took the money without your permission. As well as your own bank statements, you would also have been sent E-Mail acknowledgements of your Prime status and the annual fee they were charging you.

You really had no right to do that.

A good few years ago now, Amazon were indeed guilty of allowing people to too easily sign up for Prime and then not allowing them to cancel. Bad publicity about this led them to relax their stance and make Prime far more user friendly.

The MSE guide rather needs updating.

Regardless, I'm glad you got a refund if you didn't use the service.

The main lesson learned should be to check your bank statements..:T
  • I agree with the above, letting rip on a poor customer service chap is a pretty crappy thing to do - what makes you feel the need to ruin someone's work day?

I hated working in customer facing roles as sometimes people would genuinely give no consideration as to how awful they were being on the 'phone to you, and felt like it was 'their right' to personally attack and belittle the staff.

I did order a skip to the worst offender's house when I left the company, though! They really did deserve it :rotfl:

I do subscribe to Prime and I get ample warning that a new subscription is coming out. I'm always worried when someone signs up to something by not bothering to read what they are ticking, then ignore the welcome to Prime email, then ignore the charges on their bank statement plus the email saying a payment is being taken- and still feel it warrants abusing the telephone staff. Is this what society is coming to now, this casual abuse and apparent 'right' for always blaming someone else?

    Hehe.

Many years ago I worked in a call centre and one day I was outbound calling customers who had already shown an interest in the products.

Called one guy who let rip before I could introduce myself asking why I dared call him without permission. Before I could even say where I was calling from he had sworn and shouted and calling me a 'lying toad' before he disconnected.

A few weeks later I took an inbound call from someone complaining that he had received the follow up call he was promised. Can you guess who it was? He made a further complaint when I told him I didn't accept his apology. :rotfl:
