Surely I do own my house???

It was over a year ago when I read the documents ... there's been a proverbial Amazon River of water under the bridge since so there's no way I'm going to remember a detail like that.
I know I own my property, and the close-out of the mortgage was handled by a legal company I know and trust. (The same people that did the conveyancing when we bought it, a local company who've served this town for nigh on 100 years). Let's just leave at that.

You might care to look at the number of posts G_M has made and the number of thanks received before criticising. (S)he is one of the most authoritative people on this board.
Although you may not have meant it, I also got the impression that you were trying to get free information rather than paying £3 to get definite information from the official site.
That may be so but i believe in this site being polite? An incorrect curt assumption was made rather than asking. Being knowledgeable or frequent on here doesn't mean you can be rude ;-)0 -
I think it was a very reasonable assumption based on normal English useage and I don't beleive you posted "it costs £3 to check" as "information" for anyone else here that wasn't aware it cost £3 as you tried to claim . :rotfl:
It wasn't as if you posted "I paid the £3 to check" or "I was surprised it cost only £3 when I checked". The clear implication was "I'm too cheap to pay £3 so I'll try alternate methods" (and indeed someone did post one)0 -

Exactly this.0 -
I was in a similar situation , no sale showed.
Paid my £3 , still showed previous owner. Got onto my solicitor who spoke to land registry , appears there had been a mess up on their side and the registration had never been completed.
Was well worth the money rather than trying to sort it out in 20 years time.Ex forum ambassador

For closure - I checked the LR link posted earlier ... no results (for any address in my post code area). But then again I live in Scotland, so sales up here don't appear on the LR, they appear in the Scottish equivalent.

...they appear in the Scottish equivalent.

Indeed they do, but (at least this used to be the case) not so easy to access as the Land Registry.

When we decided to take out a small mortgage after having lived in the house for six years...we had bought the house cash...we discovered that the house had never been registered in our names. Letters of apology followed and all sorted but its a bit worrying when something like this happens.0
