Holiday Autos unGuaranteed New Car

On Holiday Autos website it stated "Guaranteed New Car!" and my Car Hire Voucher stated "We guarantee that you are going to get a 2017/2018-registered car at the desk" as a special offer.
Get to destination and Hertz/Thrifty rental agent says they only have a 2016 car. Nothing else available unless I pay for an upgrade. Thanks but no - I took the 2016 with 50k on the clock. Nice enough car but squeaky brakes.
Have screenshots of all docs. On return sent a complaint and got a £20 voucher that can only be used on Holiday Autos website, cannot be combined with any other promotion or offers. Original hire was nearly £500 so this conditional voucher is pathetic. Can get a better discount by using cashback sites instead of voucher.
So beware - ignore useless new car guarantees when deciding between car hire quotes.
Anyone else experience this?
