This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning all :)

Quick one from me just to start. Dreadful nights sleep to a point I will be heading to reception soon to insist on a room change. Think it was the cistern filling or something to do with the hot water but every 10 mins all through the night it was there ...like chinese water torture!! Add to it the very loud snorer in the room next door and I didn't stand a chance ....oh its a glamorous life

Hoping the day improves from now

Have a good day all

Good morning and thanks Nelski for starting off.

It seems quite mild this morning, I haven't been outside but I can tell by the temperature of the house.

I've been awake since 4am, finally gave in and got up about half an hour ago.

It's the usual Tuesday ahead - exercise class, bit of shopping, housework then out to quiz tonight.
    Gripping stuff eh!!

    Welcome to Hedgesparrow.

Sorry you've had a bad night too Nelski

Thinking of the TA's and HollyHarvey, plus others who are finding life difficult

    Take care folks

    Morning All

There's a howling wind and driving rain out there this morning, not looking forward to being on the roads but the swimming pool is calling!

Had a good catch up with some friends yesterday and a lovely chicken and bacon salad, came home and did nothing!

Haircut today after work thank goodness, having my hair short means more frequent visits to the hairdresser as it grows out so quickly.

Love to you TAs, sounds like you are all being well looked after.
Hope the police catch the lowlifes involved RR, can't believe they broke 2 windows and all for nothing.
Hope Holly has a better day.

    Happy Tuesday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, but not too cold, heating has clicked on but wasn't on for long, forgot to turn it off yesterday when I left for work but I will definitely switch it off today before I leave the house.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now going to work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly as he's running this morning, gym review later.

Dinner last night was an easy fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - tonight will be chicken in mushroom sauce. I'll need to decide what to have with it.

Work yesterday was another nightmare, people off sick, machines breaking down - and we were just left to get on with it pretty much, add to that not enough staff on the phones, for a while one of my colleagues was the only person taking calls and she had 20+ calls stacked and people had been waiting 60+ minutes to speak to someone, we had been been re-assured that these problems would be dealt with - and we are now into months of waiting for that help and it's still happening - they were advertising for extra staff they interviewed last week but it still takes 6 weeks to train these people, 2 of the 4 posts advertised are only temporary, in real terms I'm not sure they will really makes that much difference. We'll see. Luckily my past work was more full on and similar and I did that full time, my job is part time so I'm able to let it go over my head when I'm getting shouted, sworn at and have difficult/angry customers, some of my colleagues aren't able to do that - hence why we have so many off sick.

Fat club tonight, think it may be a stay the same - as haven't been very focused this week. No alcohol at all - doing sober October unofficially just wanted so see if the wine at the weekends is affecting my weight loss.

    Keep safe and well x

Colder here this morning house feels chilly the heating will have to go on soon enough.

Thanks for the thought on my car, Camelot that's what got me, two windows smashed and they got nothing  that and the fact that he had thrown my stuff in the hedge !! I had the glass people out yesterday who did a temp fix on my car until they get the glass in Thursday so at least its rain safe now, I have had so many people contact me via FB saying that the same thing has happened to them all in rural car parks !! they obviously drive between them all just doing cars over !!

Back to work today I have to drive slowly though because of the temp glass, good job its not far away !

Quiche and new pots tonight with some veg o a nice easy dinner.

Best get on have good days all xx

Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.

Especially thinking of the TA's and Holly

RR hope the police catch the low life

    Welcome Hedgesparrow

Not sure what we are doing today, don't need any shopping but will probably go out for coffee and people watch. Trying to make the most of the milder weather before it gets too cold.

Need to have a chat with DS and DiL, dreading it but need to get things sorted, clear the air. Maybe see them at the weekend. Why isn't life simple and we can all just get along?

Hope you all have a good day

The bus is no longer stopping at this address in the night, yippee. Hospital this morning, finding out how much the tumour has shrunk, and it has, but whether that ulitmately makes a difference to the proposed surgery no idea.

Also visiting a friend later who lost her mother last week, I know how that one feels, so will go and morally support.

Made the kimchi last night, it's happily fermenting/seeping in the big plastic tub...I bought a set of the snap lid things years ago, I have never used the biggest one until now, so everything DOES come in useful!! :)
Have to cut the waistband and interface it ready for tomorrow as well

Oh dear, sleep is in short supply this week for lots, hope the sand demons come and smack you on the head with the sleep hammer tonight [ mixing up my sleep metaphors here] ...SR, sounds just about right though,,,nice, unsurprising day...Happy haircut camelot, RR that's just rubbish, hope they get caught, actualy no, I hope they hae the same thing happens to them, because it's always ok if it's not you. nmlc, it's not just your owk that's like that, it's was like that where |i worked before, and where some of my friends curently work. I'm nt sure where this idea of job shortages comes from, because everyone I know is sturggling to cope with the workload and unable to find anyone to suit...Enjoy the people watch SO. Wotcha nanny, hope all's well Sperky..Big shots of rum or something bracing for everyone with a cold, something cocktaily for those without :)
    Hope Tuesday treats you well.

    Morning all,

No posts from me recently due to being in week 3 of the never ending cold. I thought I was OK on Sunday, but no, Monday morning it was back again. Last night was a Vic on feet and socks on night so at least I slept well. The three hot toddies that I had between 4pm and 10pm may also have helped :D

Snoozer I live on the Wirral. Fancy a cuppa? :)

Silver-Oldie You have nothing to lose by talking to them.

Nelski hotel noise really is torture. I don't sleep well the first night away from home anywhere so if noise is added in I've had it. I hope you have a better sleep tonight.

Thinking of the TA's and Holly as always

Take care all of you :)

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Nelski sorry to hear that you had such a rough night.
Welcome Hedgesparrow our garden is full of your birds namesakes.
Cheers for the cocktail Taff will be hoping the news is positive at the hospital.

Clear but cold here, sorry but we do have our heating on for an hour in the morning to take the chill off!
Have a docs appointment this afternoon re my knee, am hoping I will get a referral for some physio as struggling at the moment and it locks badly if I’m sat with it at 45 degrees so tend to get out of the car like an elderly lady but my biggest bugbear is no riding Lu :( I am trying to keep her fitness up with inhand work and lunging but it’s not the same.

Anyway, worse things than that are happening to other folks, take care everyone and have a good day x

Hello everyone and especially CRANKY my cold twin.

I slept a bit better, unsurprisingly since I had a tired day but fought off sleep until I went to bed, quite early.

Nelski I get deeply resentful about paying vast sums to a hotel and then getting woken. Hope you get a much better room.

RR,, that's awful, all that hassle.

Thinking of the poorlies, hoping Bob had a good night, that Holly had a good night, taff and poppy, thinking of you too and I know I've missed people out.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning everyone,

    It's been a while.

My Gran is still in hospital following from her heart attack last week. Test results show that she also had food poisoning, a bowel infection and thrush in the throat, so once those are cleared, she can be taken for surgery to fit 1 or 2 stents. We were told yesterday that she was pencilled in for Wednesday (tomorrow), so the infections must be clearing up.

She has good days and bad, but on the whole she's improving. I think the thought of surgery is - naturally - frightening for her and as a result, she made some last minute changes to her will. The details of which I'm not sure of but I know that I've got some paperwork to fill out. I'm trying to think positively and hope that rubs off on her.

In other news, I've received the contract for my job offer in Manchester and all seems well, some slight amends to be made. I told my current employer and they made it clear they would like me to stay and so are going to speak to HR to see what they can offer me - although I've been warned "it won't be anywhere near what Manchester are offering you". With this in mind, I think I'm set on moving.

As a result of the above, I had to tell TGFW. On our 2nd date I told her that I've always wanted to move away and I promised that I'd let her know about my immediate future by the end of October. So when I told her I'd been offered the job, we decided it was best to call it quits. She came to mine to collect her stuff and parted on good terms.

So now I need to find a property in Manchester to rent and also figure out what to do with my current flat. I've no idea on the process to I'll need to call an estate agents and find out more. Perhaps there's more info on this website too.

Tomorrow I fly to London for 2 days on business, so I'll visit my gran tonight and wish her good luck for the surgery tomorrow. I've absolutely nothing in the fridge so might jump into a SM en route home.

    Sorry for the long post.

RR - If they're doing lots of other cars then hopefully some CCTV will catch them somewhere!
Cranky - You can never have too many hot toddies! Hope you feel better soon.
