Missing cat

Hi all,

So my cat went out as usual on 28th September & hasn't returned . . . as it's now day 10 i'm starting to really worry about him. He does go out, so at least is used to going outside.

I feel like i've done all I can to find him, but maybe you guys have some ideas? I've been keeping an eye on the four Spotted Facebook pages but nothing yet, and he is on two of them (the third hasn't read the message yet, but he at least is on the one for our village)

I'm using animalsearchuk, so have 600 leaflets i've distributed (& 100 saved in case of any sightings), 70 outdoor posters are on lampposts all around the village (lots are on bus stops and at junctions), and 70 indoor posters i'm working through

I have him up at the post offices, dentist, possibly 1 Dr's (if he allows it), newsagents, the two main dog groomers etc. He is microchipped, and is reported as lost. I've been onto Network Rail as I live fairly close to train tracks, and they said they'd scan any found cat, but they've actually spent about 4 nights cutting back hedges etc with floodlights on so i'm sure he hasn't been hit by a train

I sent a message asking the radio station to mention him but not sure if they have. I'm wondering if he just has a feeder, but have put leaflets through every door on the closest roads and nothing yet. This is the first time he's gone missing, and he's 2 years old so used to being out & about.

I did email the milkman, no reply yet, and am going to contact the village newsletter. The sports centre and one pub have him on their noticeboard too. I've handed leaflets to two posties, and have a poster on my front door which a third said he'd been looking at. Asda have said they'd put a poster up where the home shopping delivery guys are, and I handed one to a binman

Any more ideas pls? x

  • The usual advice on Facebook groups is to hang some of your worn clothes on the washing line and leave the litter outside. They catch the scents and come home.

Feel for you, I have 4 and lose my mind when the don't come home for 1 night.

    Is he snipped?

Hi, I put the litter tray contents outside, with a blanket used in the cat carrier (the litter had his Sister's pee in) so maybe that will help, so far nothing though. He is neutered yep x

Cat Protection are very active where I live in the lost/found cats posts. Anything like that your way?

  • So sorry, I really feel for you. Have you tried walking around at night? He may be more actively trying to get home at night and it will be quiet so he may hear you shouting for him.

Have you checked all locked garages, sheds etc and asked neighbours to check in theirs?

Finally, do you drive? When my cat was missing, I searched the streets for him every night on foot, but the night that he finally came home I had driven, and I suspect he may have recognised and followed the sound of my car.

    Good luck xxx

I don't drive no, would make things a lot easier as my feet are killing after putting leaflets and posters everywhere!

I have put leaflets through & they ask people to check sheds/garages, so hopefully they did, no sign of him or any stuck cats calling out while I was out & about & he's mixed breed so very, very vocal

His microchip company sent out an alert to all within 30 miles, CP had 2 branches further afield alerted, none are close. I have informed the RSPCA, Council & the rescue I got my old dog from though

What do you all think to this: https://mytabcat.com/shop/tabcat-pack/

I am wondering whether to get my female cat one, they don't wear collars, but i'm considering getting a safety one & putting do not feed & the phone number on it, just embroidered, then maybe this. I just think if she lost her collar it'd cost a lot, which isn't very MSE, but I guess you could locate the collar if she did?
  • I like it but like yours mine don't wear collars. I do think reuniting would be far easier if they did, a tracker or just a simple disk with a number engraved would let someone know they're owned.

Sad possibility but find out what the local council do if they've gone to the rainbow bridge on the road. Ours are collected by the council and taken to a local pet crematorium. Not all councils scan for chips.

Have you notified local vets or put a poster up there?

Found cats are taken to our local vet,

The microchip may not work or may be missed.

I've called the council & they do scan them apparently. I'm also keeping an eye on Spotted, as many cats are posted there if run over, so far nothing.

Yep, they have shared it on their Facebook page & also have a poster. I've also called every Vet within about 5 miles I think, and a few are branches so have alerted their other ones, plus the microchip company sent an alert to everyone within a 30 mile radius. I hope if he's being fed someone sees the posters & calls up, it's a freephone number so they can call anonymously
