Ah, ok, so you think there shouldn't be any issues with these new appliances on this installation. I wanted to ask before I buy them online. Didn't want to get them delivery to then find out from the electrician that it cannot be done without reqiring.0

Hi, it's a separate cable only for the cooker. 6mm² which I cannot really upgrade to 10mm².
It terms of how long it is - I'm not sure - it is about 80cm between the connection unit and the 45A cooker switch and then maybe 6-8m to the fuse box with the 40A mcb (not sure if that's what you meant when you said about the length).
Yup, the total length from consumer unit to cooker was what I was looking for..
For a 6mm² cable buried in a typical wall is only rated at 32A. A 10mm² cable would be good for 44A, and 16mm² would be overkill at 57A. For a very short run from the consumer unit, you might get away with a 6mm² cable.
There is a thing called diversity loading - Depending on the cycle duty, min/max load, length of cable, and what type of wall/conduit is used, a 6mm² may suffice. Although the calculations are not complex, you need an experienced eye to identify potential problems and advise accordingly.
For a 6mm² cable, a 40A fuse or MCB is too high - It should be rated at 32A.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
I think I was just trying to get an answer one way or another whether I can order these two appliances without any issues or I definitely shouldn't as it would trip the mcb. I wouldn't want to end up in a situation where I order these appliance, get them installed and then shortly after run into problems that will require more investment to rewire and upgrade to 10mm cable.
I can look for something else, a different oven and hob that will be in the same range as the existing one. Would that be your suggestion?0
