N26

Options
N26 is about to launch in the UK.

I've been on their early access list for a while. I received an email yesterday to let me know their beta launch in the UK is imminent.

It seems to be similar to Revolut, with three offerings: one free, the other two with a fee.

Features and pricing details for the UK haven't been fleshed out yet, but you can get an idea of what might be offered from their plans and fees pages aimed at the markets they already operate in.

You can never have too many [STRIKE]shoes[/STRIKE] cards. :rotfl:

Whats it bringing to the table that Monzo and Starling haven't brought.

They don't use FSCS which is a minus but are there some positives?
    Thanks

N26 charge 1.7% for withdrawing cash abroad. I was all set to get one up until I read that in the t&c's.

What's the point of posting about this when you don't know when the product will be available in the UK?
And what is a "beta launch"?

Not a lot by the look of it. It would appear they are about to enter the "new kind of bank / mobile bank / built from the ground up / built from scratch" market which is already crowded in the U.K. Looks like a cross between Monzo and Starling to me.

They pledge signing up "without a scrap of paperwork' which will most likely involved photo of passport / selfie / video call. Honestly I'm getting bored with the latter.

There was a time not so long ago when I was very interested in Fintech and sang the praises of the new fintech banks. But right now the novelty has worn off and I've gone back to Lloyds Bank which is is more reliable. Hey at least my Lloyds Bank Debit card works.

The only ones that seem even remotely interesting are Monzo, which is actually a very useful product with useful budgeting features and its own market niche (tech-savvy, younger customers) and TransferWise borderless which makes dealing with multiple currencies cheap and easy. I'm not really sure what the other ones are doing. Starling isn't especially exciting. This doesn't seem to be bringing much new to the table either.

So I got an N26 UK current account - mainly for using abroad when travelling. It was very quick, I got an email invitation today and signed up, then installed the app, they verified my ID and opened the account, and will send me the debit card by post.

Glad it worked for you. I got an invite as well - but wasn't able to verify my ID - simply because I gave up after waiting more than 15 minutes to connect to someone to verify my details, despite the app claiming the ID queue was very short at that time..

@JuicyJesus: n26 partners with Transferwise too. It also allows for sub-accounts (called Spaces) for budgeting. So far - in the so called UK beta launch phase - the only downside I'm able to identify is 1.7% for cash withdrawals abroad. It's free for purchases abroad though, and they use the Mastercard exchange rate.

That all describes Monzo (Spaces being Pots in Monzo-land) except Monzo charges no fees on £200 of withdrawals a month.

    Again - what's the USP?
