On 10 November 2017, a meter reader obtained meter readings of 18322 (rate 1) and 52080 (rate 2).

No wonder the computer rejected the readings - are you 100% sure they are for your meter. ?

Please read your meters again and post exactly what they are - include all the leading zeros and the numbers after the decimal point.

What sort of meter is this - an old clock type, cyclometer or a modern digital ?

It was a digital meter rate 1 and rate 2,
Below I have pasted some more of the ombudsmen reply, so it does appear the readings are correct

"I can see from the company’s account notes that it asked you for photographs of your meter in November 2017 in order that it could investigate the out of line readings obtained by the meter reader. You provided photographs of your meter on 21 November 2017, which confirmed that the readings were correct. You then provided final meter readings of 19282 (rate 1) and 55065 (rate 2) on 9 December 2017, which again followed on from the readings obtained on 10 November 2017.

The energy industry standards confirm that suppliers must make reasonable efforts to ensure that they receive meter readings at least once per year. The history of your account shows that Southern Electric has fulfilled this standard, with it obtaining meter readings on 30 October 2015, 17 May 2016, 19 May 2017 and 10 November 2017. Your balance has been both in credit and debit at the times it has obtained meter readings. The large balance on your account appears to have been caused by a surge in your energy consumption between May 2017 and November/December 2017. I note you advised during our discussion that you provided numerous meter readings that the company did not accept. However, I have not been able to find any evidence of this."

I have been told that the energy supplier only has to read once every two years however submitted reads by myself count towards this amount. Is that correct? I'm wondering if I could look at back billing?

Lets be sure that the bill is correct first please ?

What were the ACTUAL readings of Nov 2107 - have you been taking readings as well ?

PS I see you are on E10 that means there should be 3 sets of readings ?

Actual readings were 18322 (rate 1) and 52080 (rate 2)

( I now no longer live at that address)

I did my own readings after these which are in line with these reads

Yes I was on e10, but definitely on a rate 1 and rate2 on the digital meter

Then I don't think you were on E10 but still on E7.

Do you have bills when you changed from E7 to E10 - I am pretty sure this would mean a change of meter.

Going from E7 to E10 is a most unusual move as most suppliers are trying to get rid of E10.

This requirement was dropped by Ofgem in Apr 2016.. The Energy Ombudsman is correct that suppliers now have to obtain a meter reading once every 12 months. Even if The Back Billing Code was applied (which given the Ombudsman’s Decision is not an option) it only applies to bills raised against usage more than 12 months ago. That is, you pay for the past 12 months.

Sse installed the new e10 meter in october 2015 ( taking the e7 out)
Have you seen a digital e10 meter? Is there definitely 3 separate rates?

I was just working my figures through, so just to clarify, in 18 months
Rate 1 17706 units and rate 2 50228 units used, total of 67,932. Isn't the average meant to be 4000 per year? Thank you so much for helping me

    Does it mean
    a) their engineer must read once per 12 months or
    B) if I provided a reading does that mean they have fulfilled their obligation?
