Paying in cheque thru App

Options
Ok. So can anyone give me any clues how I pay in a cheque these days?

So you scan it with our smart phone?

Ideally it would be Santander
but I have accounts with most major banks that pay interest on current accounts

Thanks you

I've only used this feature with Halifax. Not sure if other banks offer it..

You can take a photo of the front from inside the app. The app makes sure the image is level, fits inside a box etc. Then it renders the image into a high contrast black and white image that makes the salient details easier to see, cheque number etc.

Photo of the back in the same manner. Submit, and done.

Retain the cheque because if there's a problem processing the cheque for any reason, such as unintelligible amount/signature Halifax send you a letter explaining. You can resubmit or whatever you need to do to rectify the problem.

With Halifax the status of the cheque is easy to see in the app.

Definitely a lot better than trying to find your nearest branch after your local has been shut down.

I go to Lloyds branch and scan it on their dedicated cheque paying in machines having put in my debit card first as ID
It displays the cheque on the screen along with it's OCR's decision as to its value for you to confirm or otherwise
It has yet to get a a cheque mis read when I've been using it.
  • Personally I wouldn’t use bank apps to pay in cheques at the moment as there are a lot of issues still to be ironed out. Some people are not getting letters either from their banks explaining there has been an issue with their cheque.
I will continue to go into a branch for the foreseeable future to pay in cheques.

    Thank you.

    My local Lloyds has closed.
The road to my Santander has been pedestrianised.

Oh well. Better wait a month.

    Expecting some more cheques

I found the feature in bos app

May give that a go when a
    Low value cheque arrives

I've used the Lloyds app to pay in a cheque and it worked fine. There were no problems at all and it cleared by the end of the next day.

If you want to test it, write a cheque payable to yourself for a pound from another account. I did that when the feature first appeared to see how it worked.

I’ve used the Halifax app three times so far, struggled the first time, couldn’t get it to scan initially. Next two times were fine - maybe app improved in between that.

Never had the cheque bounce or fail.

Certainly saves going into the branch, plus the cheques I pay in never seemed to work in the branch machines so had to queue up for counter service, so even better by app!
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)
  • I've used Halifax and B for this. No issues. You always have the physical cheque to fall back on if there are problems.

It is also available in HSBC's mobile banking app.

I only found out after I'd made a journey to my nearest branch to pay a check from HMRC in. The princely sum of £22. WOW!
