As a house viewer.... it wouldn't even occur to me to look at sockets.... they're immaterial when choosing a house.

Who is to say brushed metal looks better than plastic anyway? That's a subjective style choice.

Do what you think's best. Do what you want.

But nobody ever failed to buy a house because "they had the wrong sockets!"

I bought some coloured sockets to match the paint for my flat when I was young & foolish. Of course, that colour went out of fashion, so before I sold, I had to change them back to white.

Plain white sockets won't go out of fashion, similar to bathroom suites. Stick to them IIWY.

I had brushed sockets but when I redid the kitchen and every other room I've just changed everything to white mk stuff - its decent quality and I've got no desire to make a feature out of the sockets - rather I'd have them blend into the background.

As above, white has been fine for all the 40 years I've owned houses. Fashion for sockets - what is the world coming to?

Personally I wouldn't have the USB charger ones - although they are convenient you have an electrical item that you cant access, cant see, cant isolate easily and is connected to the mains 24x7

To be honest it would be wasted in most rooms of the house. The Kitchen is probably the only house where someone will notice fancy sockets. Everywhere else it will be covered up by a sofa or a TV
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • We will be doing some work (including electrical) to the kitchen and loft so we may add some new ones there at the same time.

I am 80% leaning to leaving the others as they are, but good to hear the feedback :)

Recently visited friends in their new build London Zone 1 flat costing quite a packet.

The sockets were white albeit it flat and with USB ports.

Rather than replacing existing sockets in good working condition, you might get more benefit from asking if there's anywhere you need extra sockets and spend the money getting some installed:

Renovating one of my rentals recently, I had to remove all the brass fronts that had been screwed over the light switches. (Fortunately the white switches below were still there.)

They looked so naff with scuffed dull brass fronts. :)
