Old Style Daily Friday 5th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I've been up for a while so I thought I would start us all off again. I have just had the most delicious dippy egg and soldiers breakfast so I feel very happy and full now. I didn't eat very much yesterday as I was quite stressed out so I was ravenous when I woke up this morning. It's the little things that make me happy such as a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg
.
Lee's meeting was ok yesterday I think. Steve was fine about attending on his own in the end so I worried myself sick for nothing. Lee's doctor wants to see video footage of Lee when he was very little to see how he interacted with others. I am quite looking forward to going through the tapes we have of the kids growing up. There are some very funny plays on there that they used to perform for us and they all loved dressing up.
Steve has booked today off as he and the kids have a dentist appointment this morning. He's also decided to spend a lot less time on his computer and actually do stuff around the house instead
. This will be great I hope as there are lots of niggly jobs that need doing so I will make him a list to start with. Eventually, the whole house will need to be redecorated but we will start with baby steps, I don't want to scare him off :rotfl:.
I am going to make a chicken curry in a minute and throw it in the slow cooker to get on with. We have shopping coming this afternoon so I want to clean the fridge as well. I've bought some stuff from Lakeland to clean the oven. It's got very good reviews but I was wondering if anyone on here has used it? Lee has volunteered to do the work so I will let him loose on it later.
Sorry to read that so many people on here are feeling awful, I am sending out loads of hugs and well wishes especially to the TA's.
I hope you all have a better day today whatever you are doing. Take care everyone xx0 -
Morning dumpling and all to follow
Dumpling glad it went quite well yesterday xx
Its Friday :j off to work for me but only half day as I have this afternoon off to visit a friend who is in hospital, he had a massive brain aneurism and collapsed in the pub he ran about 8 weeks ago and has been in hosp since. the family are only just allowing people to visit as it has been touch and go but hopefully he is on the mend now but is still at risk of stroke etc and will be in rehab for months. He cant eat proper food yet so I have made him an egg custard with loads of eggs milk and sugar which should fatten him up a bit.
After visiting I have to go and pick up some wood for the back gate, we have has all the fence done but the gate is falling to bits so OH will build a new one this weekend :j
Pizza chips and salad for dinner tonight with wine
which is already in the fridge.
Have good days all xx
Thoughts as always to the TA's xx
Holly hope you are ok and have plenty to read xx
Specky Hope Gran is a bit better xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, but not too cold, as we have the heating turned off and I'm not freezing. We're only putting it on as and when needed at the moment.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone also and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, veg and gravy - tonight I'm not sure but it won't be anything too complicated. I'll organise whilst I'm food shopping this morning.
I'm pleased with how productive I was yesterday and I was getting along nicely, then had a missed call from dad. Tried to ring him back but couldn't get a reply so went to their house and mum has slipped and they thought she had sprained her ankle, after much persuading I went with them to the hospital, after an x-ray she has cracked a bone in her foot, she has a boot on and has to go to the fracture clinic this morning. I pushed for them to go to the hospital yesterday as I didn't like the look of her at all, and she had been violently ill before I got there and then was again twice more in the hospital. They told them if that continued she must ring nhs helpline etc. We weren't happy about her trying to get upstairs in the boot, so the boys went over and moved the bed downstairs, mum and dad said they didn't need to, but she's definitely not safe trying to get up and down the stairs as I saw her yesterday. My bro may come over today - he was coming over to visit them tomorrow, staying tomorrow night and going back Sunday. No doubt I'll have contact later today - if he's not coming over today I'll phone dad later to see how they got on, there won't be any point phoning until lunchtime at the earliest.
So on to today -
I'll be food shopping first thing, then home to crack on, I have a big pile of ironing and I want to get our bed changed, dirty wash basket still has stuff in it so will continue with that. I still have some admin stuff to do so will plod along getting down what is needed.
Keep safe and well x
nmlc x
Just to add - dad's only remaining sibling his youngest sister was rushed into hospital whilst we were away with a suspected stroke, they've decided it's not that, the onset of motor neurone has been mentioned but nothing confirmed and she's really unwell. Also we have no answers as yet to the unexpected and sudden death of mum's sister on Monday night - so all going on here, just trying to support both mum and dad.WEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB0 -
Morning all, slept on sofa because new bed hasn't been made [boo hiss!] but don't feel like I've been run over by a bus, my mouth is a lot better except for the crack in the corner that won't heal. Veg soup was ok, but discivered that the very top will burn in the slow cooker around the edges, which then seeps down into the soup. I didn't taste it though so it's all good..
Todays plans include [thanks to dumpling] boiled eggs for breakfast, they sound really nice...hang the not eating runny eggs interdict.
I think I may venture out again today, to look for bargains and to purhase items for the porch, like tongue and groove, because it sounds terrible, but I love DIY shops, I could spend hours in there. Might even treat myself to a nail gun [but only a little one because of potential accidental death issues thaks to clumsiness!]
Hope yesterday went well Nelski, good to hear you're not stressed today and yesterday also went well for you dumpling. Good luck with the DIY and you redruby.
For everyone else, hope you're feeling better, especially you nanny window, hope the physical ailments have lessened for everyone and holly is fine in hospital.
edited bit - good on you OL, maybe tough love will work. nmlc - my condolences, and hope your mother gets her foot sorted today.
Hope the weekend harbinger will be great for you all.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
good morning all. Thank you for the new thread Dumpling, pleased that yesterday turned out O.K.
taff sorry no new bed, good that you feel better though.
nmlc your family are having a rotten time, hugs and best wishes re your mum.
OL I too hope that the tough love with pay off.
redruby Gosh a terrible time for your friend, best wishes for a good recovery for him.
Hugs to all that need them, need to pack computer away now and find a space for it in the car. Take care all. xThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
dumpling - thank you for starting the new thread :T. Good to hear that your DH was ok taking Lee to his meeting and that all appears to have gone well. When we were first trying to get attention drawn to DGS1's condition, I often mentioned that we could do with some 'film footage' of various aspects of his behaviour .................. but we were told that it would be 'inappropriate' to film him in that way - so infuriating when it would be easier for the Paediatrician/Psycologist to 'see it' instead of us trying to 'describe it'
. Good Luck with getting your DH to tackle those 'little jobs'
!
redruby - hope you find your friend to be improved. We almost lost my DSis last Christmas due to 2 ruptured aneurysms and she still has another '3 lurkers' being closely monitored. It's a scary time, but the treatment now is so very good - DSis is so proud of her 'platinum bits'
.
Organza Lace - Hope your son will accept your 'rules' about your household - maybe a couple of nights of discomfort (either outdoors OR on friend's sofa) will focus his 'resolve to change his ways'. Is there anywhere that can offer him support in getting clean of whatever he's abusing? Prayers and ((((hugs)))) for you both.
nmlc - Sorry to hear about your DM's fall and their situation
- on top of other 'recent news' as well
. Well done to your own boys and your brother for getting stuck in as well :T. You take care and don't burn yourself out xx
~taff - Enjoy your visit to the DIY store and hope you get your new bed sorted
.
maddiemay - have a good day today - whatever you're doing
.
((((HEALING HUGS)))) and prayers for all those who need them today - for whatever reasons.
Not much going on here today - maybe I NEED to get on with some housework, at least
. My first 'IN day' of this week, so still sitting here in nightie and dressing gown with morning TV on in the background. Could also make a start on the laundry basket ...................... when I summon up the energy
!
Thanks to dumpling and ~taff, I'm also now craving dippy and toast soldiers .0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Dumpling, glad that the meeting went well and enjoy looking through all the memories.
How scary for your friend Redruby, hope he enjoys his treat.
Am so sorry that your family is going through such a tough time nmlc, so many worries for you so please take care.
It’s a tad cloudy here at the moment but it’s meant to brighten up, yesterday turned into a beautiful day with warm sunshine so hopefully more of the same. I’m going over to see Lu this morning and will work her in hand, my knee is still too painful to ride and I have a docs appointment for next week. Other than that the usual housework and I hope to do a bit in the garden later.
Hugs to all, especially thinking of the TA’s, good to hear that your son has turned up Organza, Nan hugs to you and hope today is better for you.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning chums
Foggy here in my bit of the village this morning .Dolly has been walked and a cuppa has been drunk.
The musical was good last night and the trains were a doddle to get there but so hot on there I dont miss the London commute at all. We went with the friends we are off to Vegas with and will be doing a groupon search for offers and booking our grand canyon flight at the weekend when we meet up for dinner so purse strings will be pulled tight this and next month
Dumpling great news about the meeting
Ruby I hope your friend has improved and enjoys the egg custard
Organza Glad you have seen prodigal keep firm on the rules for your own sanity x
Nmic I hope your mum is feeling a bit better today and had a rested night downstairs
Taff take it easy lovely hopefully yo can get the bed made up today x
TA ,Poppy and Holly I am thinking of you all and sending positive vibes and gentle hugs xxxx

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Dumpling. Good to read that yesterday went well.
nmlc, thinking of you.
I hope Hollyharvey is managing to get some rest, and that she has enough to occupy her in the day.
TA, you have been in my thoughts every day.
Mr Ancientofdays has taken the car to the garage as tge windscreen washers are not working, he will walk back though there is a bus right outside. He'll go and fetch it later and will take DS to a dental checkup this afternoon, during which time I can Hoover as noisily as I like.
Yesterday was lovely and sunny. Today not so much. I got a load of towels and kitchen cloths dry. We have a wasps' nest above tge kitchen, in the eaves, and during the day they go about their waspy business, at night they sleep in their nest like good wasps do. But an hour before dawn they cluster on the kitchen window, rather like something from a horror film. They leave marks where their nasty little bodies have been and I ask OH to clean the window every few days. Yesterday he objected, pointing out that it would be just as bad in a few days, so I told him that this line of reasoning could easily apply to a lot of the things l do, like cleaning the loo. I think he accepted tge argument because he cleaned it.
Organza_Lace I hope the rough sleeping might have some effect, you must be exhausted with this behaviour.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning

Well that was a massive lie in for me nearly 8pm before I woke. Combination of no sleep the night before and been shattered from our day in London. Had an amazing day so much fun and the sun shone us. Trip on the thames was just perfect and the afternoon tea was lush. I love London but I also love leaving London
bellabella Glad you enjoyed Bat out of Hell I really fancy seeing that too. That sounds like an amazing trip your planning
Working today so back to reality then a evening shift too. Will have soup for vittles and an M+S sandwich I bought for the train last night but never got round to eating.
OL respect to you for standing strong with Prodigal. I hope he is getting some professional help maybe a stint in rehab would help him. Anyway you take care you deserve some breaks x
No update from Holly yesterday but hoping she will call today.
Have a lovely day all and keep smiling nanny I miss you0
