Flex account plus covers world wide. It is different from Flexaccount which only covers Europe.

Incidentally, has anyone received any information on this change from Nationwide yet?
I have only seen the MSE article so far.

FlexPlus - costs £13 monthly for the "free" travel insurance and other packaged benefits.

The (genuinely) free Europe only travel insurance benefit was discontinued by Nationwide in mid December 2016 for new customers - not sure if still valid for customers who opened this account before then, I suspect it is though.

I don't believe Nationwide have yet informed customers by mail of the forthcoming FlexPlus change.

Nope, but there's an article in the financial pages of the Daily Mail today, so it must be true!

I vaguely recall a letter around the time of the change warning that if the monthly funding requirement was not met, you'd lose it permanently - but yes it should still be in force for pre-2016ers.

That is how I remember it playing out as well.

We preferred the worldwide cover of the FlexPlus so we cancelled the FlexDirect not long before the free travel insurance benefit was pulled.

I called Nationwide yesterday, the response is that a letter is to be sent out to relevant account holders in late November.

Not impressed - MSE etc. put this information in the public domain a few weeks ago.
