Makes sense. Why should the rest of us pay for these retired boomers to fall sick on one of their zillion annual holidays abroad

Some of them are probably buy to let landlords too - who the Nationwide do a good job of supporting these days. They were set up originally to help young people and the poor to save and buy a home - not to support the rentier classes take their hard earned wages in rent and price them out of buying!

In reality anyone aged 70 and over probably has some form of pre existing condition which means they probably don't qualify for the free insurance anyway!

The Co-op Bank have an account which covers up to age 80.

It costs £15 per month, however if you pay out a minimum of four Direct Debits there is a monthly £4 Reward (as far as I’m aware) which effectively reduces the cost to £11 a month.

It is possible to set up nominal £1 DD’s to savings accounts such as Post Office and Santander, so at bottom line, the £4 is not sacrificed overall.

Might be worth considering for anybody not happy with this Nationwide fee announcement.

Another aspect some account holders might not be aware of - cover up to age 75 (for example) means up to and including the day before 76th birthday.......it does not end on the insured’s 75th birthday.

From the link in post 1

'The surcharge is per account, not per person – so if a couple aged 70+ both want to be covered by the travel insurance, the total charge will be £65. '

Very many pre-existing conditions have no effect on travel insurance policy premiums.

Nationwide charge £13 monthly, up from £10 not so long ago - can you please advise where this free insurance is to be found, and how long is the waiting list for applications ?
