We have three TVs when we only ever intended to have one.

Firstly, when we lived in Spain, we kept our UK house (rented it), and this house had one TV and so did our Spanish house.

When we returned from Spain, we brought our TV with us. We now had two, so put one in the bedroom. Main one on Virgin, bedroom one on freeview.

When we moved, we took our two TVs with us and had one in the sitting room and one in the bedroom. I managed to blag a free second box out of Virgin, so both are on Virgin Media.

Then my husband decided he would like a bigger TV in the sitting room, so we moved the existing one to the second bedroom and it works on Freeview.

So, quite unintentional, but the two of us watch all of them. :)

(None of them are on at the moment).

We have three DVD players too.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Sorry OP for the wander way off topic....

    No bother, I like a wander :)

Up until a few days ago we had 2 vcr's. I ended up taking them (and a load of videos) so the tip because I literally couldn't give them away. Such a waste cos there was nothing wrong with them, and some of the videos were still in their cellophane. Our charity shops gave me some nonsense about radiation from magnetic strips as they were unable to accept them. So off to the tip I went.
The second man to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, Bobby Leach, survived the fall but later died as a result of slipping on a piece of orange peel.

At a very pragmatic level - only a very few people want cassette or video tapes these days.

As for what the volunteer said to you re "magnetic tape radiation" - I think you'd be wisest to just take what they say at face value/not bother to ask any further/accept they don't want them.

Yeah I didn't make a thing of it, they clearly didn't want them. No matter, they took shed loads of other stuff from me!
