Old Style Daily Wednesday 3rd October 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

As you can see from the time of this post, sleep tonight has been pretty non existent. I’m very anxious and stressed that is why I’m awake even earlier than usual.

I had a phone call late yesterday evening to say that it looks like a bed will become available today at the psychiatric unit, and that providing the patient is planned to leave this morning goes I will get the bed. They are being moved to another unit and I will get the phone call as soon as they leave the ward.

Now we have actually got to this point I have very mixed feelings. One part of me is scared after what happened earlier in the year, but this time will be different as I am going in as a voluntary patient. At least I got on well with the staff on the unit. Everyone was really kind and caring, including the doctors, nurses, and OTs and housekeeping staff. I also know the routine and am familiar with the surroundings.

The other part of me just wants to get on with now. Go into the psychiatric unit for the agreed period of time, have the op, and then go back to the unit for a few weeks, then home to start the rest of the cancer treatment. I sometimes think that the anticipation is worse than the actual event in these circumstances. Anyhow, I will just have to make the best of the situation I find myself in.

I will be talking to Nelski as soon as I get the phone call (and probably all the way there in the taxi, because she is good at keeping me calm) , and she will update you on what is going on.

Hopefully I will be able to read along, but don’t think I will be able to post, but I will be thinking of you all and enjoying reading your posts like always.

    Take care everyone,

TAs thinking of you as always.

Also thinking of everyone else who is poorly or caring for those who are.

I hope that you all have a reasonable day.

Good morning Hollyharvey and Organza, and to those who will follow.

I'm awake because this is my normal getting up time, but I can understand why you are both sleepless. Holly I think you are right, the anticipation is awful, hopefully once you get the call and go in, you will feel more settled. I hope it will feel very different from last time since this is hour choice and not something that is happening against your will.

Organza_Lace, the worry about Prodigal must be horrific, I'm assuming that he is misusing alcohol or substances again. And, given what has happened in the past, I don't imagine that your OH is being very helpful or supportive ' please forgive me if I'm wrong.

Day 10 I think of having no real plans due to feeling unwell, I'm now hoping that this is my annual bout of being under the weather and that the actual winter will be manageable. I have given this to my husband though seemingly in a milder form and as someone suggested yesterday, it is all a bit like the Frog Chorus, I'm humming that.

My mother's 90th birthday today, I have sent flowers and a card but cannot go up as I can't risk passing on the germs, even if I felt up to the journey, which I don't. I haven't heard from her for a little over a week, which may mean she is in a sulk as I have not arranged to go up for her birthday. Although I am fond of my mother, she is quite a difficult person who wants to be at the centre of the universe. Dhe is angry with me because I don't share evrry detsil of my life with her but i never have done that.
I will phone her later, she is not an early riser.

I hope everyone has as good a day as possible and I'm sending loving thoughts to those of us who are unwell or worried, thinking especially of the TA family.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Awake early here, too. My thoughts will be with you today Holly, and I wish you well. It's very much in your favour that you speak so positively of all the staff, and that is a very definite plus.

Today I'm going to a friend for a Reiki swap, the first for a while as she's been away. We'll put dates in the diary now that she's back.

Food wise, it's bacon and tomato for breakfast, the last of the chicken broth for lunch and a vegetable curry to use up what's left of last week's veg box. I eat a low carb diet for health reasons, so it'll be served on a bed of shredded cabbage instead of rice.

Yesterday's domestic achievement was mending the kitchen blind. The plastic chain ends had come out of the connector then out of the winding mechanism, so I took the blind down, fed the ends of the chain back through, glued the chain back into the connector to form a loop again, and put the blind back up. As I don't have a head for heights, this was a small but satisfying victory.

On top of that, I played Scrabble in the morning, had a swim mid afternoon, and went to yoga in the evening. And the bathroom got cleaned. Given I retired early due to burnout, to achieve all this felt miraculous, and I have much to be grateful for.

My best to the poorlies and carers, and may we all have the best day possible xxx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off.

Hugs to those that want/need one, thinking especially of the TA's, holly and others with worries/health concerns.

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work and DS1 now going, DS2 still in his pit, he may go for a run shortly, but will catch a lift with me to the gym.

Dinner last night was pork escalope with HM egg and savoury fried rice for the menfolk, I had the pork with stir fried veg. I ate after being weighed and somehow only put on half a pound - not entirely sure that's right but that's what the scales said at SW last night. So now back on it, I'm interested to see if the no alcohol is going to make a noticeable difference - we did have quite a bit of wine last week and the food wasn't particularly diet food - so we'll see.

Work yesterday was easier and the broken machine fixed - so that helps. Last working day for me today - have a mega "to do" list for tomorro and Friday - so will get cracking with that.

    Keep safe and well x

Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.

sorry you are having such a worrying time with Prodigal,, hugs

Didn't sleep well last night,as soon as my head hit the pillow I was wide awake. Kept thinking about Mr and Mrs TA and how unfair life can be.

Yesterday the weather was lovely so we went out. I had a coffee and DH wanted chocolate. The mug of chocolate was huge and piled high with cream, I couldn't have drunk it but DH was so happy.

Today we're going to visit mother, I suppose it will be more eating biscuits pretending to be asleep.
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Morning :)

Holly Ill speak to you later my love I know this is scary but the waiting was awful too. Least this way we are on a countdown to it all been done. Im around all day so call me as soon as you want to :A

OL Sorry you are going through it again with Prodigal that must be so upsetting for you.

Taff its a long story but in a nutshell bananagate describes the weekly conflict I have with my 87 year old mother shopping in Morrisons she has a penchant for spending way to long gazing at foods and choosing banana that have exactly the right dimensions. Sounds harsh Im sure but she is a very difficult woman and takes pleasure in being nasty to me then denies it.

AODGood luck with the birthday phone call 90 is such a good age but I totally understand that doesnt make them easier people.

Woke up sweating buckets this morning. The boiler is playing up ...the motorised valve has gone so there is no heating without the water being on and last night I clicked them on for a little warm and forgot so the house is like a sauna now. Think it will have to go off again now till I can get it sorted.

Less said about banana day the better.....over for another week on a positive

Today I MUST crack on with my course design as time is ticking. I also need to nip to the train station and pick up everyones tickets for our London trip. Could get them tomorrow but I would worry too much about not being able to and been rushed so will nip there today once our Holl is safe and sound.

No plans for food today so will have a freezer rummage soon

Right going to catch up with The Circle and Bake Off then make a start.

Hope today goes as well as it can for you all

silver_oldie hope biscuit day goes OK maybe your better her being asleep
