I've had the judgement come through now. As expected, I lost. They didn't even knock off the 'contractual charges' which is disappointing.

Thank you to everyone helping me to prepare for this way back to when I received the LBC. Obviously I'm quite disappointed that I didn't have an opportunity to defend myself but life plans got in the way of that.

I don't know if this information helps in the slightest but the judge at the hearing was a 'Recorder', I've never heard that title before.

A Recorder is quite a senior judge, much more senior than a District Judge (the level of judge which normally hears these claims). (S)He must have had a case drop out of his/her list, so was then given the small claims overflow for that day (rather than twiddling his thumbs).
