transferring contract between iphones
Options
Hi, hope this isn't a question that's been asked before, had a quick search but couldn't find anything.
My wife has broken her iphone 6s (its still in rice but vital signs are not good!).
She has it on contract - as i understand it (i'm pay as you go giffgaff) she has paid off the phone and is now paying just to use the network - its 18 quid a month and a decent tariff. It has 6 months to go.
Basically I am wondering if I can buy an iphone unlocked for a couple of hundred quid, get an o2 simcard for it (/if inserting one is even possible without special tools) then PACs code the number over and she can keep using the same tariff. It makes sense in my head but i'm not sure i've explained it well. The 02 help person kept trying to upgrade her contract but I'd be keen to avoid if possible, even if it means cancelling contract and paying penalty; but would prefer not to.
Hope that makes sense! time is a bit of a factor - wife is a doctor and currently on call, is having withdrawal symptoms from no mobile and is going on holiday at the weekend so any timely advice would be great! If this is in the wrong section also apologies and please let me know

Oh also; its no longer under warranty. And the replacement HAS to be an iphone because iphones are life (apparently. sigh)0

is the old sim not working then?
Have you tried it in another phone to check - then you can just buy a new phone without faffing around with PAC codes.
They always try to upgrade the contract. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Just order a replacement sim of that number0

thanks for the reply - currently youtubing how to remove it (so much easier with my motorola!) So if i transfer the SIM (assuming it isn't wrecked) it doesn't make a difference to 02 at all?
(I realise these questions may be stupid - feel like such a luddite; i've never had a phone contract so it's all new to me)0 -
It was implied (i didn't know enough to challenge) that there were 6 months of the contract left (regardless of that the handset was now my OHs; so I was planning to just run that down as its vaguely competitive before going to giffgaff or similar?
Managed to get sim card out. Had to fashion something with wire as paperclips are never where you want them to be! Charging old reliable xperia to see if it works0 -
Okay bit of feedback
Sim card is working and the nano fits in the Xperia so we have a stopgap and a plan moving forwards!
Thanks for everyone's help and patience with my lack of IT skills!0 -
It would probably be worth your wife going for a cheaper sim only contract. £18 per month is way too much unless she needs a massive amount of data - see: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-sim-only-contracts/
If the phone is paid off, she should be able to leave by giving a months notice. With phone contracts, the phone is paid off during the minimum term of the contract (usually 24 months) and after that the contract becomes a rolling monthly contract.0 -

It can be different with o2 and Virgin, you have a separate fixed-term contract for payment of the handset together with a service contract which may have its own minimum term.0 -
Have you had a look at the various refurbished iPhones around from places like Music Magpie, Envirofone and even GiffGaff themselves?
GiffGaff sell theirs unlocked, Envirofone and Music Magpie tend to have a variety of unlocked and locked to network devices... means the OH is free to shop around and use any SIM she wishes in the future. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
