Mobile Phones Direct - Cashback Claims - Query on Months

I've recently taken out a cashback mobile contract with Mobile Phones Direct, and although it is a few months yet off needing to send in my claims I am double checking my understanding of which bills I need to send in.

Order/Connection Date: 29th August 2018
1st Bill Dated: 2nd September 2018

According to the T&C's, it states the following (Although it doesn't refer to an 18 month contract, elsewhere on the site it confirms it followings the same process as 24 month contracts):

18.4. If your deal includes cashback or line rental discount this will be shown on the confirmation email sent immediately following a successfully completed order. Cashback and line rental discount is claimed in five separate instalments, on specific billed months over the initial duration of the airtime agreement.

18.5. Cashback on 24 month contracts can be claimed as of the 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th and 18th billed month of the connection or upgrade.

18.6. Cashback on 12 month contracts can be claimed as of the 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th billed month of the connection or upgrade

Their website gives the following example:

"If you are connected in January for your first claim we would require a copy of June’s bill"

My understanding was that my first claim will be my 6th bill received (dated 2nd February 2019) but following the example they gave it would be 2nd January 2019 ?

Has anyone else claimed from them recently and which date method do you follow? - I want to stick to their T&C's so I can hold them accountable should they be difficult.

It used to be January, but then they started reverting to the first bill date as month one. When that happens simply claim the earlier month and if they reject it then wait until the later one. They let you know straight away and pay like lightening so nothing lost if you claim a month too soon. When they started messing around with this I know of one contract which was paid in the earlier month and the second claim (earlier month) was refused. All subsequent claims went through in the later month without a problem - though always submit as soon as you get the bill so you always have time to react if they then start playing games. Never known them too, but always assume a dealer will then you can't lose out unless they go bust. At least (unlike CPW) I've never had to sue them.
