Old Style Daily Tuesday 2nd October 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone
I managed to get all of my labelling done yesterday, and packed the majority of things I need to take to the hospital with me. A lot of clothes I couldn’t pack because I’m not sure what I will want to wear between now and going into hospital.
After going out for coffee and cake yesterday we went and had dinner in a lovely Turkish restaurant. The food was really good and it’s somewhere we will visit again in the future.
This morning a friend is taking me to an appointment, and then we are going out for lunch at a local pub we use quite frequently where they do a good choice at a reasonable price. I’m certainly eating out a lot right now, but I’m not complaining.
I found an unused duvet cover still in its packaging yesterday, buried under piles of other things in the linen cupboard so I have put that through the washing machine on a refresh cycle ready to put on the bed just before I go away.
Ideally I should dust and vacuum through today, but that can wait until this evening, or even tomorrow. If I’m still here tomorrow I want to have another day out in a different town if I feel up to it.
TAs thinking of you as always.
Also thinking of everyone else who is poorly or caring for those who are.
I hope that you all have a reasonable day.0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.
I am still struggling with this nasty bug but improving a bit each day. This is so minor in the scheme of things but it really has been a pain.
I haven't done any proper house stuff for the past week, just haven't felt up to it, but I really do need to Hoover round at some point today before we drown in a sea of dust.
Sending loving thoughts to those of us who are ill or worried, especially to the TA family.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you Holly for starting us off, it is impressive that you are getting yourself organised so well. Hope you have a lovely day out again x
I had almost a full nights sleep so I am very hopeful I have turned a corner with this insomnia rubbish. Steve's alarm woke me at 5.30 and then I had to wake Phoebe up as the kids had forgotten to put the rubbish out last night. We have moved to fortnightly collections so it couldn't wait for another 2 weeks and the binmen come round very early. Thankfully she managed to get it all out in time and after making me a lovely cup of tea she has gone back to catch some more sleep.
Lee will be going to the gym this morning all being well, and he is going on his own too and meeting his care co ordinator there. We still haven't heard when he will start college so we are still continuing with home schooling. It's going ok but motivation is still an issue.
I have shopping being delivered this morning and providing all the ingredients come will be making a big bolognese pasta bake for dinner tonight with garlic bread and salad. We had fish pie last night which was absolutely delicious. Lilly turned her nose up at it but everyone else's plates were scraped clean.
Will be doing more laundry today and then Lee wants to do some baking this afternoon. I had the Weightwatchers magazine come through the door the other day and there is a feature in there with Selasi from GBBO making some lovely bakes which are actually made with real ingredients rather than sweeteners and fairy dust. We are going to try out the ginger scones and sticky toffee pudding recipes. Yum...hopefully.
Well that is all my waffling for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning All
I've had a good nights sleep so feel refreshed this morning. Emptied my case and washed the weekend's clothes last night and that was about it before I had a nice early night.
The weather yesterday afternoon was really miserable, hoping for a dry day today, the wind was whistling round the house when I went to bed.
Hope you all have as good a day as possible, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight will pork escalopes with pasta in a carbonara sauce. I'll eat after going to fat club, not sure what I'll eat yet.
I certainly got my wish for a busy day yesterday, complete and utter nightmare, a customer broke one of our cash machines by trying to force money into it, so that's now broken, we took it apart to try to mend it but no luck, a new part has been ordered but not sure it'll do the trick. We'll see. The day was just generally busy but as it was the 1st people were coming in to pay - and of course we only had 1 machine working. Had lots of unhappy customers in other respects also, after the first hour the benefits of my holiday seemed to have been erased! Hoping today won't be as bad, but not expecting it to be that different if I'm honest. Of course we are supposed to have a manager/supervisor with us on a Monday so at least on our busiest day we have some support, but of course we had no-one and those of us that tried to get hold of them couldn't. If we'd had a real emergency I don't know how we would have sorted that. Anyway back to it, we'll see how today goes. It's my early finish today, so not so bad, work all day tomorrow and then on days' off and I'm not working Saturday, so will get a proper few days off.
Even after a bad day, both myself and DH managed the first day our on sober for October - day 1 complete!
Keep safe and well x

Good morning
Wow Holly you have a great social life at the moment which must be helping lots. Good to know you have so many friends and family keeping you busy at the moment. Enjoy your lunch out and hope the appointment goes well. Still laughing at you labelling your clothes hopefully this time bro will get it right
Jackiemum I'm sorry Ben didn't get the job but sounds like he is staying positive which will get him a long way. Has he tried all the big shops? They often take on extra at Christmas. Boots and Marks are both advertising round here. With all that education though I hope he gets his dream job soon.
Well its banana day again which just seems to come round so fast. Lots better now since Gers way of shopping was put into action #forevergratefulWhilst Im out I need to go to Costco for a huge stock of loo rolls...with 3 women in the house soon I suspect I will need lots.
This morning I have an Asda delivery but its not just for me ...I am off to London for the day on Thursday with the book club for our annual day out darn sarf. So we have the obligatory Prosecco bottles arriving with orange juices croissants and pain au chocolats for the train journeygreat day planned including the sky tower and a Thames afternoon tea trip...will be so much fun Im sure.
No food needed today as will eat with mum. Finished the lamb yesterday in pittas so that was 3 meals from my one on saturday ...the wonder of singledom.

Good morning everyone,
Holly, I'm in admiration of your balance of preparation and self nurturing with eating out and enjoying the company and support. I'm not very good at the latter and so I'm learning a lot from you. Thank you!
Yesterday was quite a busy day but nothing dramatic - made chicken soup with a carcase, wrote and posted a birthday card, bottomed out the kitchen.
I've left the tapestry out on the coffee table, and when I sit down I'm choosing a small area to fill in, and just doing that in-between tasks. This is giving me real enjoyment. If I'd used this tactic years ago it would have made much greater progress! Truly, out of sight is out of mind!
AOD, a cold is not a trifling thing, I hope you soon feel better. Hugs for all who are dealing with health challenges and to all carers of poorlies and of families and loved ones.
Today I'm out to Scrabble this morning, hopefully a swim this afternoon. The bathroom will get a good clean before I have my R&R. The remaining chicken broth will have roasted chunks of squash added and blitzed. That will do lunch, and I think tonight's meal will also be roasted veg.
Wishing you the best day possible. xxx0 -
Morning all. Still got sores, and one that won't heal in the corner of my mouth, painful fingers, indigestion and heartburn [ didn't realise until I had it you could have both at the same time], disgusting taste in my mouth and a snotty nose...My sense of humour has deserted me today...
On the plus side, they'll be picking up my car for an MOT today and the new mattress comes Thursday so no more cracking and creaking on the current bed, also less fighting over space hopefully.
Enjoy the baking dumpling, get well soon AOD, all the positives holly...
