Sorting CR after living abroad

Options
Hi

I have lived abroad for 2 years and intend to move home permanently in the next 2 years. When I return home I will be wanting to get a mortgage (I know i'll need to wait until I have been employed for a certain time) but I would like to get my CR as healthy as it can be in readiness.

Is there anything I can be doing now to increase y credit score in the UK?

I don't currently have a UK bank account as Halifax closed my account - they did leave my savings account with 20k in but this doesn't have standing order/direct debit facilities.

If you need any more info just give me a shout - more than happy to share.

  • Ignore your score/rating as it's made up.

To rebuild your credit history get a credit card and use it each month for normal purchases and repay in full after the statement.

It'll take you a good couple of years (or more) to build a decent credit history to get a decent rated mortgage

Kind of seems pointless does't it! (The score itself I mean)

Your files date back up to 6 years, so there should still be something on your files if you've only been gone a few years. If you have a UK-issued credit card still, making some purchases and paying them off in full every month will help keep the account active, and will keep more recent info on your credit files for lenders to see. Otherwise, just apply for one when you return and make your usual purchases on the card, and pay it off in full every month

    It is entirely, yes.

Lenders use their own scoring/rating systems and never look at the CRA provided ones.

They only use data held on your credit files and their own scoring algorithm to make decisions.
