I don't know whether I "accepted" their decision by not responding - I certainly didnt say to Ombud (or Npower) that I accepted Ombud decision - does this mean I still have recourse or are you saying legal is only way fwd in which case I will go and see a solicitor about whether they will deal with (initially with a free half hour advice session) or CAB - any thoughts? Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Read para 7.2 in my post above. The Energy Ombudsman has issued a Final Decision without your further input. The process will have allowed you to provide additional supporting evidence before the Decision became Final. You have now effectively timed out.

Usually you go to Court with a claim based on evidence. What evidence can you provide to demonstrate that The Energy Ombudsman has made an incorrect Decision? The evidence needs to be more than ‘I don’t accept The Energy Ombudsman’s Decision’. As stated earlier, the Court must take The Energy Ombudsman’s Decision into account before coming to a judgement as the Ombudsman had access to all the facts. It will note that you had the opportunity to ask for the Decision to be reviewed in light of any additional information that you might have provided. Sadly, you didn’t or couldn’t provide any additional information at that time. Quoting from the considered views of MSE posters is not substantive evidence.

  • The billing was only given to me AFTER the Ombud decision - I had told the Ombud I wanted to see the bills from Npower. Npower did not provide them till after Ombud made a decision - sorry to repeat myself, does that make sense?

You have the right to challenge the bill but to do so you need to ascertain in detail why you think that an error has been made. You said in your original post that you thought that £120 per month was covering your usage. I will ask again: ‘ what is the basis for this assumption’? It is often the case, that people confuse payments with charges and then get a shock when a bill based on actual readings hits the doormat.

That said, if you are unhappy with the bill and it was not covered by The EO’s judgement then you have every right to raise a further complaint against the supplier. By way of resolution, you should ask the supplier to provide you with details of the readings and tariffs use to calculate the amount due. If you are still unhappy with the result, then you could refer this to The EO for a further decision - which may or may not go against you.

    Hi,

Please, I need help due to being slapped with a huge bill from Npower.
I was told their billing had been wrong for quite a while, that they had billed day and night rates the wrong way round. They wanted over £5k at the start of 2018 - this has risen to £11k recently. There is no way I have been using all this electric. I average £120pm.

I asked on many occassions for bills to show this - they didnt send for over six months. Whilst waiting for these bills we approached Ofgem who deliberated that all we would be due back would be a nominal credit (£100 approx !!!).

Only just recently Npower have just sent out bills from Oct 2011 to Aug 18 - I cannot make head nor tail of these bills. So, can you please advise me of these points:

    1) As Ofgem have made their decision (the £100 credit) can I go beyond them (to a further body ie appeal, legal, voluntary service) to seek help in dealing with Npower despite the Ofgem ruling?

    2) If the answer to 1) is Yes, is there any professional body that CAN make sense of the bills i have in my possession?

    Thanks in anticipation
