Ford to refund 'engine fail' EcoBoost customers

  • I contacted Ford, and they've offered to refund the cost for the parts only. Anyone else have this?

    There are over 1200 alone on the FB group so I think they are being conservative with the figures.
    The FB group may well include a reasonable percentage of the "worried well", together with spouses and family members of those who have actually been affected.

    Grasping at straws. If it is that urgent you can always find a way even if it involves ringing up a taxi.
    In other cases, customers have had to sell their car at a loss when repayment of motor finance costs is taken into account.
    Some real grasping at straws by the legal firm because they'd have those costs even if nothing had gone wrong.

    It's individual registrations which list a number plate, mileage and time of engine failure. It's hard to believe with all that there isn't a much wider problem on the way.

    They've just created a separate post for people with the larger and newer I engines, which were originally thought to be free of the ecoboost defect, to post failures on. I would suspect there is a problem throughout the entire range depending on the stress on the motor. The 1.0s are under stress all the time just with normal driving, so are going pop now. The larger motors have more slack but if they're used up to the limits of the old version engines they replaces, are going too.

    There are Americans on Youtube who have bought whatever the Ecoboost equivalent of the old 2 litre trucks is, and finding they're overheating when towing loads up hills. Most of these vehicles will be sold to people posing around LA and Manhattan but if you are trying to use them as a workshorse then they aren't up to the task.

    Ford have managed to create the worst of all worlds. They've denied there was a problem, annoyed their customers, ignored their customers, and eventually turned about and admitted there was a problem all along but that it isn't anyone's fault and they're only helping out of goodwill.

    A friends got a focus titanium which I think has the 1.6 ecoboost engine. Its loosing water. It was bought second hand and is likely to have patchy service history if any. He's had work done including a water pump, two radiators and possibly a head gasket trying to resolve this.

    Can he still get help from Ford?

    He needs to join the Facebook group. The support that Ford is offering is for people who have had failed engines, but as Ford simultaneously refuse to accept that engines have failed because there is anything wrong with them not everyone is having much success claiming, especially if service history is sporadic and work has been done outside of Ford's garages.

    He's probably more likely to have success asking that they resolve the problem free of charge, or at least with a contribution,than getting money back now.
