Which AA batteries

8 pack from Wilko. £2
In my experience, Wilko own brand alkaline cells last just as long as Duracell. I've never had one leak either.0 -
Rechargeables from Lidl are the way to go. Ignore the 1.2V rating for rechargeables, they can sustain higher current delivery than alkalines and they actually output around 1.4V when fully charged, dropping to 1.2V when they're nearly dead.0

These are hard to beat ensure you type in 07 at the endo f the code to get bulk discount code.
It is the battery capacity you need to look at to compare the options.
These ones are very good at 2.5ah. GP batteries are 2.2aH as an example.
Free delivery over £8 so advise doing the same with the AAAs
Dont buy those Pro-Elec batteries they are utter junk..
Bought a box of PP3 and more than half are already below 8V, some are totally dead. They are brand new with a 2020 date code.
Only tested them because we put a new one in the kitchen scales and it wouldnt power up. tested the voltage and it was under 7v.
Tested the rest of the box and they were all junk. Opened one up and the cells are corroded.

I always use cheap alkaline or lithium.
If you're willing to spend more for a battery that lasts longer, go for lithium if you can get them for £1 per battery that's a good price.
If you want to save money, buy any cheap alkaline batteries from a reputable retailer. JCB ones have been ok in the past. Tesco brand are ok too.
I'd only ever use Zinc batteries for TV remote controlsChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Anything but Duracell, had far too many leak.0

Which? magazine tests showed the best AA batteries to be Duracell Ultra Power, but running a close second were Aldi Activ Energy at a price 60% less than the Duracell.0

I eventually bought 12 Duracells for £5.30 from Amazon - I had credit worth £5.03 - so cost me 27p0

Anything but Duracell, had far too many leak.
Same here. I was a die-hard fan for decades but it looks like they've cut a lot of corners in the last 5 years.
I've had 4 or 5 appliances ruined by leaking Duracells. For one expensive weather monitor, I tried their customer support / refund policy.
They were a bit rude, and advised that because I hadn't removed the batteries when not in use, the promise to replace equipment wasn't valid.
So this thing is like a clock, when is it not in use? I didn't get anywhere.
Lots of reports on the net of people having similar experiences.
I've gone over to rechargeables, and find that the 1.2v makes little difference0
