Hi
Something weird happened to day, They have allowed me to change supplier, something you can only do with £100 debt or less. Got to give readings to powergen yet but look like they may have let me off (not ) They were in the wrong.0 -

The only domestic customers that they object to leaving for debt are the ones who pay by quarterly cash/cheque. All other customers including prepayment, Direct Debit will be allowed to leave regardless of the balance on the account. When your account has been closed you'll still get a final bill which you'll be expected to pay in full straight away.0 -
Hi Queenie,
Suppliers are not allowed to transfer PP depts between each other so they do have the choice in your case to let you go and not anger you further.
As Stewiew says, you will still get a final bill. This bill may have all this debt on so I would stay alert and keep your complaint live until you know.
Stewie - the issue over PP debt transfer is per Ofgem, Suppliers can object to any other payment method very easily with a debt. They can also do it on PP customers but I would imagine they don't want a further complaint in this case.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
There are currently two people (including myself) in my home, and we have alsways paid by direct debit for a combined gas/electricity tariff.
I recently received a letter from Powergen saying I owe approx £2000 in unpaid fees. The house is empty for eight hours per day with no appliances running for this time, and I have no central heating to bump up the cost. What would anyone suggest. They are asking for £400 per month for electricity alone0 -
Hi
Spoke to powergen today, some of my prices are 7.o1p per kwh, they should be 10.83p, they admitted my meter hadnt been recalibrated since 2005 and they have found lots of faults with these meters. They will not block on debts under £1000.
Phoned energywatch again as it says on their website that powergen have promised to recalibrate meters within 3 months of a price increase to keep debt low. When I asked the lady she had no idea what I was talking aboput so I directed her to their website. I asked what this meant as reading between the lines it could mean that they could only get 3 months back payment, sh couldnt answer my question so will call me back. I ant to be armed with all knowledge for when powergen phone next week.
If powergen refuse to budge, would it be possible to ignore them and debt collections and wait for it to go to court to figth this, as there is no way Im going to give up without a fight? Any views would be great.0 -

Hi,
There is not enough info on your post to give advice. Can you clarify whether you have a PP meter, a credit meter etc. Also, have you been billed only to estimates and now a reading from the meter has caused a jump???:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Queenie - you will have debt collectors on your doorstep much quicker than it will go to court. Thats the final stage for them and it wil be after much stress to you.
It might be worth you speaking to the CAB who are dealing with many such cases like this. Wait until you have heard back about this clause. If you are dealing with Energywatch though, they will also help you and deal with the Supplier.
My interpretation of the rule would be that since they have failed in their obligation, they can only set the debt correctly now. However, they probably won't see it like that.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
If theyve attempted to reset your meter then your screwed. If theyve been once, found no answer and given up you have a chance.0

Just thought I would update you.
switched to british gas and my usage is only half what it was with powergen. Checked online with powergen today and my account has been wiped and I owe nothing. I called them to clarify and their response was " we have written it of as we couldnt justify collecting this debt"
Anyway, at least my perserverance has paid off at last but its been worth it0 -

I would ask them to send confirmation in writing that you don't owe anything as normally when a balance has been written off it just means it's been passed on to a third party debt collection company.0
