In time the happy memories will take over from the grief but he will always be there in your heart.

Let yourself grieve, it is natural and a necessary part of coming to terms with what has happened.

Do not set a time to 'be over it' , everybody is different.

I have taken two years to consider another dog but have also chosen another after 6 months.

I do not go looking. One day it just seems the right time.

Hi all, thanks for the further messages. Still feeling extremely low after his passing.

Over the past few months I have been suffering from depression, and I cannot help but blame myself for being selfish and not noticing any slight changes in his behaviour or physical appearance.

When we had Jasper, I always imagined he would be the first of many, as I'd always loved the idea of rescuing dogs throughout my life. However, I don't think I can do it again. Ever since the day we got him, when he bit my nose, then shoved his head into my chest apologetically, I knew he would become a special part of our lives.

It's a frightening thought to think that this pain won't ever pass.

Animals are very good at hiding symptoms, and one thing we all tend to not focus on, it's when we have a few symptoms we realise, so please don't blame yourself

Also, don't feel *you* have to be there for everyone else (I understand), it's ok to be upset and you're all there for each other. In time, it does ease, the Staffy in my photo had to be PTS 2yrs ago after 7.5yrs, there is still the thread on here from before I got her when I was just thinking about it. I loved that dog to bits, and the cat that went 5 weeks after her, but now it's fond memories more than hurt.

Sounds like he had a lovely life with a loving family which is what they want, really, isn't it? So sorry he passed tho x
