My old 19" monitor decided to burn out on Friday so I am now sat in work trying to find another. They only seem to sell TFT screens now, I have seen a 19" widescreen locally for £100 and 17" seem to be about £90. Has anyone seen any bargains or can recommend one? I'm a bit worried about widescreen, how does that compare to my old 19" by way of the viewable area, I won't think it's smaller will I? Cheers

DO you have a tesco's extra near you. They have an array at good money and the best thing is they were all working so you can see the quality before, oh and they cost roughly what you have quoted.0

Don't forget that (because of the way that they are constructed and mounted) the viewable area of a 17" TFT/LCD screen will be (as near as makes no difference) to a 19" CRT one.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

True if it it's not a widescreen LCD, but if he's used to a 19" 4:3 monitor a widescreen 17" will look very cramped as it will be nowhere near as tall. At work we're replacing 20" CRT's with 22" widescreen LCD's and they're not as tall. They much better for things like spreadsheets but they do take a little time to adjust to.It's my problem, it's my problem

Thanks for the help, there doesn't seem to be much choice out there, the majority of monitors seem to be widescreen. 17" will be too small but I think I could live with 19" widescreen. Can anyone tell me how the widescreens work, when viewing photos etc, does it stretch it across the screen? Also what is DVI?0

i've a samsung syncmaster 22" monitor (it's a little out off your price range £220),it's has tall has my 17" monitor and nearly twice has wide
they do not strech pic or film ect they work just like and normall monitor by opening a box up with the pic in not like a widescreen tv they can strech the pic has the pic ect is kept the right seize by the program your using so no streching just mine get a bigger box round it .
the screen is work my the programs on your pc and graphic card .
like here for wide screens http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=335&stid=monitor
and here for normal 19" http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=40&stid=monitorthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
If you have an old Graphics card and buy a widescreen monitor it may stretch the screen to fit if the card does not support widescreen modes. However more modern cards do support the widescreen modes so you just choose the appropriate resolution to suit your monitor. It's my problem, it's my problem
