    Yes, almost. And purely by accident.

    In my teens, I wanted to be a social worker. Then I went a bit off piste, and ended up leaving school without completing A levels, let alone going on to university. Went through a series of secretarial roles, eventually ending up as admin in Children's Services.

    Then they opened the MASH and all us admin were co-opted to being Referral and Advice Officers, taking referrals, giving advice to professionals, talking to families (on the phone, not face to face), and making recommendations as to whether the family would benefit from early help support, or if the case meets threshold for a S17 Child in Need Assessment or a S47 Child Protection Assessment.

    So doing social work, but at a lower level, and not working directly with families.

    And all purely by chance, having been offered a three month temporary admin role in Children's Services. Been there seven years now, five of them doing the social-y work role.

    Tbh i didn;t think i'd live to 16 (bipolar/suicidal thoughts etc), so i'm just coasting along really. Im 32 this week and still not quite sure what the hell im doing with life. But now i;ve moved shops i'm a lot happier with my job. I did always love playing shop when i was younger though, had a little checkout and loads of plastic food so in someway maybe i did end up doing what i thought i would :rotfl:

    I always wanted to be a lawyer, and ended up becoming a lawyer. Whether it was the right decision who knows!

    Its interesting to see that 40% of people said yes. That's much higher than I was expecting.

    I never really knew what I wanted to do; I went from lawyer to archaeologist to translator and then back to lawyer.

    And then I ended up leaving school at age 16 without any further education lined up! I ended up doing beauty therapy because it was the only thing that I could get into 2 weeks after the start of the college year, and i always quite enjoyed painting my own nails. Fast forward so many years and I make a decent wage.
  • I wanted to be an RAF pilot until I spent a week on a base and discovered that I didn't like wearing uniform or being told what to do.
    Afterwards, I encountered early computers at school and uni, and found them boring.
    45 years later - mostly in IT and wearing a suit and following instructions - I have finally reached my level of incompetence ; just in time for retirement. ;>}
    Actually most of it was to my rules, and has been enjoyably challenging - a bit like completing puzzles every day.
