Are you doing the job you wanted to do in your teens?

Yes; wanted to work with computers since building cardboard box ones. 45 years later I've spent 31 years developing software & DBAing in a lot of companies. Joined the NHS 12 years ago and am still (mostly!) enjoying the work.0

I went through a spell of wanting to do my current job when I was 14/15, then I went off the idea - went back to it at 25 and have now been doing the job for 10 years0

I wanted to be a scientist and I am a scientist! I'm not quite in the area that I wanted to work in but close enough.0

I never knew what I wanted to do and have got all the way to retirement still not knowing what I want to do....
All I did know for sure when I left school was that I wasnt going to even think about working in a factory (very thankful one of our teachers had taken us all on a visit around a local factory to put us off that idea - it worked a treat LOL).
So basically I became a Personal Secretary and, latterly, did office work for many years.
If I had my time again is another question totally - I think I'd have been a lot more motivated to get the qualifications and go to a (genuine) University for a (genuine) degree if I'd realised how my money (and my life itself) would have gone by not doing so. The career at the end of that I'm guessing would have been management level (probably in the public sector) or being a librarian.0 -
Absolutely. I'm retired. :rotfl::rotfl:0

I had no idea what I wanted to do, had no interest in computers at all.
I was in college doing art and sports studies but couldn't really see where this would lead to and just wanted to start earning some money,. ended up dropping out of college around the same time as a few of my friends,
We all got jobs at a large local pension company, they had jobs in the actual pension departments, I just happened to get a temping job in the IT department.
20 years later I'm still working in IT as a Consultant in London, do I enjoy the work, stress and long commute? not overly, but its well paid and enjoy the benefits that brings,0 -
How did you all know what you wanted to do?
I get frustrated not knowing what I want to do, I'm not particularly qualified for anything either!0
