Just wondered. Do you have to provide a mobile phone number? I don't give out such details generally and don't wish to start now.
Cheap Nokia from ebay £5 and a PAYG sim £10 - does it for me.
Chuck the SIM if you start getting spam calls, and get another.

There is also no way they could possibly verify whether the number you give them is actually yours.
Deosn't matter it's just a verification that you have a physical object to provide a login code, many banks etc use this technique

They do. I've just been sent a text when I logged on from my phone instead of my desktop.

They do, according to Rheumatoid above. If correct, providing a mobile number that you can't access at all would not be advisable.
  • Yeah they do. Try logging in from another device or clearing cookies from your browser. It will prompt you to send code to email or mobile to login

Do you have the choice of email or mobile? If so, you could simply opt for email verification - with the caveat email might be less reliable/slower than SMS.
  • Yes it gave me the choice

I picked sms which appeared within 20 seconds
