Opening HSBC - how long does it take?

Applied on Saturday and added in my switching details. Received a message saying something like "We need to review your applicaion" but heard nothing since. How long does this normally take and will you receive notification one way or another?

I didn't even get an email confirmation of my application which I thought was bit odd.

There are numerous reports on this forum about HSBC taking ages over current account applications.
  • HSBC is known for being very slow to open accounts. You do not get a confirmation email when you finish your application, and from memory when I opened mine I think it was a week or so before I got any sort of confirmation that my application had been successful - I got some forms in the post I had to sign and return.
  • I think it's around 2 weeks since I applied and the first communication was a text message 30 minutes ago thanking me for applying and they are reviewing my application and will be in touch soon.Probably another 2 weeks??

I applied recently and it took less than a week to get all my info/card/pin. Theres a switch doc when logged in but no further info on switch yet, been ~2+ weeks now.

When I applied I had no further communication after submitting the application form until the debit card arrived a couple of weeks later
  • I have just applied on line and it was instant and I was told I could setup telephone banking and then online banking as soon as my debit card arrived which was within 3 working days. Not started the switch process yet, but will do it within 30 days of opening the account.
  • Cards arrived, switch happened Tuesday. Still yet to receive the code I need to actually access the account online though, which I posted the info to them 1 week ago

I registered my company and came to a NatWest branch to open business accout. All went fine, I filled all the documents and gave them utility bills, passport etc, etc. and I signed everything and the lady told me - all done, and I will receive account details later.
Opening an HSBC account in a NatWest branch? Clever stuff....

How long does it take to open a can of :spam:?
