Our council only provide us with the smaller wheelie bin. We always fill it up well before collection day. If I buy my own larger wheelie bin - would it still be emptied.
We don't qualify for a larger bin - I just need one.
Thanks for any comments.

Councils won't empty non-Council owned bins. If you buy your own bin you'll also have to pay for a private collection.
Instead, you should seek to re-cycle your waste or take your additional waste to the tip yourself.0 -

They won’t take extra waste from you if you don’t qualify for it through their policy (it’s 7 or more people per household here, or medical needs)
Look to recycle more, or take to the tip. The council won’t empty your bin for multiple reasons, including health and safety of a non council provided bin, bins and wagons are calibrated to suit, and even then things can go wrong. You cant add your own bin into the mix. Also, they will know you have not been allocated that bin or a larger bin and won’t empty it. The same reason you can’t just put out two small bins.
And if you really are filling up more than everyone else manages with, look to why you are creating so much waste.0 -
It varies some councils are quite happy to empty non issues wheelie bins, a lot of councils still don't issue then for general waste.
The only way to get a definite answer is to contact the council of at least name the council and someone may have personal knowledge0 -
Our council did only empty one recycle bin and the one was overfull. The week we saw they had changed waste company we put a second one out and its been emptied ever since.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

We don't qualify for a larger bin - I just need [want] one.
Is your recycling bin full?0 -
The smaller bin is plenty, if you're filling it and needing more space you mustn't be recycling properly, or you'd qualify for the larger size.0

What exactly are you putting in the bin, if your putting things that can be recycled eg bottles, cans etc then yes its going to get a bit full.0

To be fair, we have a guinea pig and he gets cleaned out every other day. That can be an extra 2 or 3 bags of waste a week which can't be composted and the tip won't accept it so has to go in the black bin.
So it might not just be a case of not recycling properly.0 -

Bleedin 'ell - that is a lot of waste from a little pet! Why can't you compost it? Wood shavings or paper plus manure should be an excellent addition to a compost bin.0 -
Reduce, recycle, reuse!0
