Currently my gf works 3 midweek shifts a week between the hours 07:00 - 20:00. She has an arrangement for child care that covers the school drop off and pick up on those days until she gets home from work. Unfortunately, the arrangement has to stop.

The earliest the school accepts arrivals is 8am (breakfast club) but I would not be able to get to work on time from the school location. Same for school finish time even accounting for after school club until 18:00.

We have emailed, phoned, searched the internet asked about for child minders but no one is able to offer help due to my partners shifts not being set days.

She has applied for family friendly working hours but again the shifts offered only sort out the drop off and not the school pick up etc.
Ok, so the drop off is sorted by requesting family friendly hours, it's just the times when her shifts are later to pick up from the 6pm after school club. I'd look for an older teenager to start with and pay them to pick up from after school club. You could also advertise for a mothers help, but just my opinion I think a teen is more likely to want the occasional hours. Start asking around amongst neighbours etc.

Alternatively ask employer for set days as well as being able to do the morning run, it sounds like a CM would be prepared to take on if they were the same days every week from what you've put.

Its not ideal, but surely there must be a group of Childminders who can help with the childcare. Eg

Childminder A, covers Mondays, Thursday and Fridays
Childmidner B, covers Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It is necessary to pay for the days the Childminder covers, whether used or not, but it can be done.
  • Maybe ask other parents from school to take care of the child until your gf at work
