Economy Energy refusing Refund of Credit Balance

I left Economy Energy at the end of September 2018. A few months earlier they took a direct debit from my account of £450 with no warning. I was not happy with the service I was getting from them so I switched to another energy supplier.
Since leaving on 29 September 2018 they have not refunded my money (over £450 and took two more direct debits after I left them). I have complained by phone and email and was told to expect my money back by 30 November 2018. The money has not been returned to me (it is now 8 December 2018). I have since seen some reviews on Trust Pilot and many people are having similar problems with them. I have now been in touch with the ombudsman and will progress my complaint.0 -
Why doesn't the regulator impose an obligation on the outgoing supplier to refund any credit balance within a certain number of days automatically after the final bill is produced?
Bulb who are handling my switch from Economy Energy (my switch was complete on 7th November) say I should have my final bill from EE by 19th December but as two days ago EE were demanding that I reinstate my now closed DDs I suspect it's going to drag into January. They couldn't organise a p***up in a brewery. They are just impossible.0 -

Yes, they have a habit of not cancelling DDs and letting them run until you notice they are still taking your money. I've learned that to be detriment and hoping for my refund anytime whenever.....0 -

Suppliers will not take further direct debits after they have provided you with a final bill (unless that final bill indicates they will to recover any final balance debit)
My understanding from your previous post elsewherte is that you are still awaiting the production of that final bill.
Until the final bill is produced, no one knows for sure what you may owe or be owed.
Any payments collected via DD before the production of the final bill will be reflected on your account, and hence in the final bill.0 -
Another article appears in this weekend's Daily Mail:
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/article-6474937/THE-READERS-CHAMPION-energy-provider-thats-economical-refunds.html
It follows the trend of reports of customers who have left Economy Energy who are unable to access their refunds.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
According to my last bill, based on actual readings, I'm £800 in credit and have been chasing them to get this money returned... I've been told a new bill will be generated and I'll be called later that day (didn't happen), that I'd be called / e-mailed later in the week (didn't happen) so chased them again to say that there's been no request for a refund. I wonder what would happen if I simply stopped paying my direct debit? I'd probably get cut off, but it's ok for them to hold onto a significant amount of my money because they can....0

I left Economy Energy in August 2018. I have a credit balance of approximately £180 - I AM STILL AWAITING A REFUND and have had to resort to the Ombudsman Service0

Yes, sadly the ombudsman service is under great pressure for the limited number of staff they employ. Consequently, the ombudsman service takes quite a while to investigate complaints (in which time, of couyres, the supplier may well have resolved them themselves)
If you left the supplier In August, it would have been October before you could have reasonably expected a final bill. If that had not arrived by then, you could have started the complaint procedure with good reason, and they would have been permitted 8 weeks to resolve
So to have gotten to the ombudsman service by today means you've obviously been clock watching
Now you have taken the matter to the ombudsman, the supplier may decide to make you wait until the ombudsman issues its resolution, and you agree to it, before the supplier does anything else.0 -
Just searching for advice about what to do to get my Credit back from Economy Energy and found this thread. We switched from Economy Energy (to Bulb) in May. We have 237.36 in credit to come back, BUT have still not received it. After the last chase on 27th November they said the refund had been requested on 7th November, but still no sign of it.0
